A large group of us headed down The Cape for a day of fun in the sun. After 4 adventures that took us from Falmouth to Wood's Hole to Sandwich, we ended up at Captain Parkers for dinner. All I have to say is... Fantastic! They were able to seat 17 adults, and one toddler in under an hour on a very, VERY busy Thursday night. Although they couldn't seat us all together, we did get two large tables close together to continue in the mischief. After checking out the menu for a solid 10 minutes, I was torn... and feeling super hungry, I decided on a cup of clam chowder and the ribs. Boy was I satisfied. It was all very delicious. The baby girl got her usual, chicken fingers and fries. Those were yummy too. Usually it takes her 2 sittings to finish a meal because she gets bored, or loses interest. But she finished her entire plate. I wish I could say the same for myself. I had leftovers for work the next day. Our waitress was attentive, and very patient. All in all, I was very happy with our visit. I can't wait to come here again.

The Cape's best chowda! The specials are superb...especially the prime rib and pot roast. We go there weekly especially in the winter when the 'crowds' are less and usually no waiting.

A Cape Cod classic. The restaurant itself is great, nice bar if you'd prefer to sit there or an open dining room with a nice atmosphere and high ceilings. They have Keno too, which is always a plus. As far as the food goes, authentic New England. Some say the best clam chowder on the Cape and the broiled scallops are the best I've ever had.

Good food, good family-friendly atmosphere, no reservations. When my family of 7 arrived we were told there was a 1hr wait. It was expected. They had us seated in about 45 minutes so that was nice. Our server was very nice and speedy. She had our soups out ASAP and our appetizers came out right afterwards. The food was pretty good too. Big portions for the most part, considering 4 of us brought home doggie bags. Everyone had the chowder and it was great! Well spiced and thick and hearty. I can't say it's the best I ever had, but it was pretty good. I had the steamed lobster for dinner. The shell was unusually soft but the meat was delicious. My sister's seafood alfredo was AMAZING (I ended up stealing a few bites). My cousin got the fried shrimp and they gave him like a dozen.. it was a lottt. And my dad and uncle got the prime rib and neither of them finished theirs. It was a mighty big steak and cooked just the way they asked. My mom's crunchy fish and chips were good. And My aunt got stuffed scrod and couldn't finish that either. Needless to say we didn't get any dessert that night. Overall, good food at a reasonable price. I would recommend it if you're not in a hurry!

In October of 2002 I was coming up to the Cape every weekend to help my parents with their vacation house. I was back in Jersey waiting for Bar results from California. I was living a three state existence and hating it. We would drive up on the weekends and stay in their empty home. Empty as in no furniture, no beds, no plates, no utensils, no television, no nuthin'! I slept on an aero bed with my dog listening to football games and the World Series on a portable radio. I also got high nightly on the fumes from the cleaning products we were using to lift the collected filth and stink from the previous renters. It was a wonderful existence. Gitmo is a pleasure palace compared to what we were doing. One of the few respites from this sub-Spartan existence was going out to dinner. It was then that I first went to Captain Parker's Pub. I sucked back Sam Adams and slurped up copious chowder. I logged Captain Parker's into my data bank when this horrible month and half project finished. Fast forward to this summer. I had not been back to the Cape in 6 years. Living in California for the past 6 years denied me the pleasure of watching the Sox on NESN, eating fried seafood, and bowls of Captain Parker's chowder. San Francisco may be a culinary captial, but the chowder here tastes like goose poop. So, when my girlfriend and I came to the Cape, all I wanted to do was go to Captain Parker's Pub. I know that the pub hypes itself as having the best chowder on the Cape, but it's justified. Very justified. The place rocks. It is the Cape at its best. The Sam Adams still flows freely, the smell of fried food saturates your clothes, and the chowder is worth a 3,000 mile trip. We both had a huge steaming bowl before our dinner. I then went through a Fried Fisherman's Platter. The scallops were fried to perfection as were the shrimp, and clams. The scrod was a little weak, but at the point I was so stuffed from everything else that it did not matter. Be warned, no reservations! Otherwise go to Captain Parker's and indulge. You're on vacation and you deserve it.

Out here on our honeymoon. I'm a HUGE chowda' fan. The wife? Never tried it. We decided that it being close enough to where we were staying... it'd make sense to give it a whirl. Walked in on a Saturday night (and this is well "off season" mind you... we had no wait to get to our little table. The atmosphere is akin to a pub. Hard seats, wood tables, and a casual and friendly staff. The wife and I had the award winning chowda' (she a cup, myself a bowl...). Verdict? Great, but it didn't shake me to my core by any means. Thick and creamy, and well seasoned... but the clams within were small and no where near "delicate" as I'd hoped. My wife said she had HUGE clams in hers... so perhaps I got the bottom of the pot? Don't get me wrong... I'd have it again... but I'm not exactly freezing quarts of it to take home either. For our entree's we both opted for the Saturday special... the lobster salad. I opted for the "Lobster Salad Roll" and my wife had the "Lobster Salad Salad." We both received a HEAPING portion of very fresh, lightly dressed lobster salad containing huge pieces of lobster. Nearly all in-tact claw pieces... as well as large pieces of other portions, all dressed with literally just enough mayo to hold it together. I didn't even attempt to pick up the roll... and just fork and knifed my way through it. The roll provided on the table helped me make a few "mini" rolls as well. And the fries served on side? Top quality! Skin-on, crispy on the outside wedges, once salted... a perfect side to a great sandwich. The prices were a bit high in my opinion, but the waitstaff were attentive and friendly. Overall? I'd recommend Captain Pah'kah's to anyone looking for a place that feels like a local favorite, and comes packed with a great selection of good pub-like food.

Best Clam Chowder I have ever had! There was an hour long wait on a Thursday night but it was totally worth it. Everything else was great.

If you came for the chowder you came for the right reason. I could honestly leave everything else but the chowder is definitely worth the trip. My best suggestion would be go in, get a bowl of chowder and your drink of choice, eat the chowder as you drink your drink, and leave. That's the 5-STAR way to do it. If you want to deck around with the rest of the menu then, don't be looking at my 5 STARS because in that case I'd say 3 STARS.

Well established, and famous for their Clam Chowder. We split a Fisherman's Platter, and it was more food than we could both eat.Lots of Whole Belly Clams, large Scollops, fried Oysters, medium sized Shrimp, and a delicious piece of fish. Not the place ,for a romantic dinner, but a great place to relax, and eat.Go "off season",and get great service, and great food, with no waiting to be seated.

My bf and I came here for lunch because we read such good reviews on Yelp. While waiting to be seated, we saw that they had a lot of awards for "best chowder 2010". So of course, we order it. The chowder was pretty good, filled with a mediocre portion of clams. I'm not a fan of pepper, so I found it pretty weird that they put pepper in their chowder. I have tried clam chowder all over the cape and this was the first restaurant to ever put pepper in their chowder. Also, they put some type of garnish, I assume it was parsley, but it did not taste good. We ordered the lobster roll, which came with an order of wedge fries (they were seasoned well & were delicious) and their Ivan sandwich (roast beef sandwich with cheese & onion) which came with Russian dressing on the side. The lobster roll was good, nothing spectacular. Their Ivan was extremely bland. It tasted like a sandwich gone wrong.

Fantastic chowder, fun and inviting atmosphere. Great place to to grab a beer with friends after work, or hang out until the wee hours.

Chowder was fantastic. Wife had Fish-n-Chips which she found superb (and she's picky). Kids devoured the chicken fingers and fries. I had a steak tip special in a wild sauce - kinda like the Jack Daniels sauce at Friday's but sweeter. Tips were scumptious - ate most of them without the sauce. Looking forward to getting back there and I can certainly see why the sell the chowder by the half gallon - the demand must be phenomenal.

Been going here since i was a kid and still like it. They have opened up an outdoor bar with dinner seating which begs the question....what took so long? Good food, amazing chowder and great view of Parker's River.

Good food. Will I be back? No, now it is a "been there, done that" experience. I think you need more than " Rachael Ray recommended the chowder" to make for good eatting. Chowder was tasty but very heavy. I prefer classic New England chowder -- too much roux just makes it thick, IMO. I couldn't touch my mussels after just a cup of it. Kids had great hot dogs and fries. Hubby had a good rib eye, although very thin and not close to rare -- it was tasty and done blackened style. Mom in Law had an Ivan - she loved it. Dad in Law had veggie lasagna -- he loved it. Off to the Zoo-quarium!

  • Laura R.

Seafood was mediocre at best. The mussels were so filled with sand that I couldn't eat them. From the first bite of the swordfish, something tasted a little off and sure enough...a few hours later, my boyfriend came down with a very healthy case of food poisoning. I can't believe this place has such good reviews! We will NEVER return here. Save yourself from food poisoning and go elsewhere!

Good food but you'll experience at least a birthday waiting to get in...and all for those who love to "drink" their meals vs. eating actual food.

like someone said before 5 stars for the chowder, but 4 star average. Best chowder I've ever had and this is a numerous times award winning chowder. The wait was long...just about an hour on a wednesday night (the wed before the friday of 4th of july though). The service wasn't very friendly. But the chowder thick creamy goodness! it is the best! just go get salad and chowder! its enough food.

Capt. Parkers is not a pricey high end place. Entree's will run you 15-20 $. It's a good place for shorts and flip flops or casual dress. This place serves hands down the best chowder on the Cape. I suggest you order fried sea scallops? Yes they are the big boys, also quite possibly the best on the Cape. Every time we visit Yarmouth/Dennisport, we go to Capt. Parkers with out discussion. I strongly suggest you try.

My husband had the chowder, which was rich, creamy, and filled with clams. It had a nice clam taste. He then had the shrimp cocktail as a main course - it was 10 large (not jumbo) shrimp served around a martini glass - cute! I wanted to order the Lobster & Seafood Fettucine but it's in an Alfredo sauce, which I don't eat. I asked if the chef could possibly do the same dish without the sauce, and the waiter offered a scampi-type dish. It was similar to that, loaded with scallops, mussels, baby shrimp and lobster meat . The chef also threw in some tomatoes and spinach. It really was quite good and I was impressed with the chef's inventiveness and flexibility to meet my requirements.

We just got back from Parker's Pub. It was good but we liked Skipper's down the road better. Yes, even the chowder.

I went to this restaurant during my recent trip to Boston and visiting the Cape Cod region looking for some clam chowder. I stumbled on this place after looking at the yelp reviews for the area. Boy am I glad I looked it up because this place had the best clam CHOWDA during my entire trip with tons of clams in it. It wasn't too chunky or watery, but it was PERFECT. We also ordered the Crunchy Fish and Chips, which was pretty good. They used corn flakes for the batter which made it different than the regular beer batter you get elsewhere for the crispy crunch.

    (4)
  • Jane S.

The clam chowder is definitely 5 star, however, my husband's mussels marinara was just okay. My fish and chips were greasy and the cocktail sauce was like ketchup (no zing). We made a mistake when we ordered little necks thinking they were steamers. Our young son was served raw little necks on the half shell. Needless to say, he wasn't about to eat those. We found out that Captain Parker's doesn't even serve steamers. I would come back for the clam chowder and go elsewhere for other seafood.

This place was PACKED the night before Thanksgiving. It was also pretty much the only place open within a 2 mile radius at 9pm. Plus points just for that. After having read great reviews about the clam chowder, I got one, naturally, and was quite impressed. But award or no award, I still didn't think that it made it in my mind as THE BEST; I'd have to say that in my mind so far, the best is the clam chowder from Naked Oyster in Hyannis. But the chowder here is undoubtedly very good. Although we've also read good reviews about the fried seafood, we weren't feeling like consuming a whole bucket of fried fat that evening, so we ordered a Broiled Seafood Platter for dinner. THIS is worth RAVING about! There were a GREAT assortment of seafoods, including scrod, scallops, swordfish, sole, and shrimp. Everything was prepared in a different way, and still retained each individual flavor of the seafood, not to mention incredibly juicy and tender. WOW. I was happy. The only thing that I have to complain about during our visit was that our waitress was a bit rude, unfriendly, and did not have a sense of humor (-1 star). Additionally, she was the only one who was at least 5 decades older than all the other servers in there (yes, grandma aged). We were definitely her last customers that night, so she probably wanted us out fast so she could go home. Lucky us. Granting we don't end up with the same server, I'd definitely come back for the Broiled Seafood Platter!

The clam chowder is that good. Creamy, meaty, tasty. Best of all, I didn't wait 40 minutes. Love the decor and the very New England feel.

A revist in 2010 and nothing has changed ..... except a beer special; a 16 oz PBR with a Captain Parker cozy for $3 .... geez PBR aint bad and a funny way to start a 40 minute wait at the bar. After quite a few visits to other Cape restaurants I noticed how much cheaper this place was. Chowder only $5 while other places $9 .... and this is damn good chowder. Dinners $5 cheaper ...... but more of a standard style and preparation. Basically if you want a really good meal, with good service at a good price at a place which is good for kids - this is the place in Hyannis/Yarmouth/Dennis area. If you want romantic place or to wow a significant other - this is not the place. Also, be prepared to wait at least 30 minutes.

  • Suzi M.

I read the reviews on Yelp and they were right! This was the best clam chowder I have ever had! Now that is all we had so I can't say much for the rest of their food but stop in for the chowder when you're in town!

  • Ksenya Z.

Why is this place rated so highly? What am I missing? Is it because I'm from CA and not used to traditional NE chowder? The stuff is as thick as wallpaper paste, so maybe people think that's good? Not many clams in there (and those were tiny), a few potatoes, and LOTS of fat and thickener. It was difficult downing a cup - I can't even imagine eating an entire bowl. The soup probably sat undigested in my stomach for hours - scary.

  • Jennifer O.

I'd probably give this place 3.5 stars, if it was an option, though the fact that it was overpriced and the service being ornery at best did not prompt me to "round up" on this one. I will say this: The chowder did NOT disappoint. It was hands down the best clam chowder that I had on the Cape (with the lobster chowder at Spanky's Clam Shack coming in close behind). Many of the people in my group were on per diems and using separate office-issued credit cards. There were about half of us paying ourselves. Because of this, we needed to have separate checks. The waitress threw a bit of a hissy fit over this (no doubt because this took away her included gratuity - but had it not been an option at all, we would have had to go elsewhere), even when it was explained to her why. This turned some of us off. The food was good, but overpriced. I ordered a bowl of the chowder, some cajun fried shrimp with pineapple sauce, and a quahog, and couldn't finish it all. However, my bill would have been a lot more had I not stuck to just appetizers. My BF ordered a salad (and helped me finish my food!), and with a couple of beers, this came to over $50 for two of us. Not terrible, but again, this is over $50 for four appetizers and three beers. If you're in the area and don't have the means to explore for good seafood, this is - though somewhat of a tourist trap - a safe bet. However, there are better, cheaper haunts throughout the Cape - Chatham Squire immediately comes to mind.

This was always one of my Dad's hangouts with his boat friends. As an adult, I have to say he has good taste on this one. It's an old standby for our family, and one of a few restaurants in its category that stays open year-round. I love their chowder, devils on horseback, and most of the rest of the seafood dishes as well. Captain P's gets jammed in the summer, so consider it a real treat if you ever get to just stroll in and sit down. I take people here all the time who want a real Cape experience with good food, a nice atmosphere, decent prices and consistent service.

  • Daniel S.

This is one of my favorite restaurants, despite the fact that almost everything on the menu is below average by cape standards. But the chowder. Oh, the chowder. It is the best I've had: extra heavy with plenty of clams and plenty of potatoes. Plus you can get it to go in a number of sizes. An absolute must for the chowder alone. Get three bowls and have that as your meal.

It was great. It was about a 40 minute wait but it is memorial day weekend. After we were seated the service was great, the food came out fast and it was super delicious. The chowder was definitely all it was cracked up to be.

I've been going to Captain Parkers for a solid 20 years now. This happens to be my parents all-time favorite restaurant on the Cape. I probably won't say too much that hasn't already been said- the food is consistent, large portions, good mix of seafood & Italian- great onion soup. It's not fine dining, but it's good food. Both the dining room and bar are packed on a regular basis, but it's always a shorter wait than we're quoted, and the bar is a good size for grabbing a drink and hanging out while waiting for a table.

Given Captain Parker's has won the proclaimed triple crown of chowderfests - Cape Cod, Newport, and Boston - this was a must visit while in town with my three chowderhead sisters who are veterans of the Newport Chowderfest. After a Saturday night dinner visit was thwarted by a 60+ minute wait, we returned for Sunday lunch and got seated after only a few minutes. The clam chowder is fantastic. Befitting its status, it's served in china vs. the paper bowls we found in other Cape Cod spots. The clam taste was front and center with the cream properly relegated to the background. A chunk of clam or potato seemed to appear in every spoonful adding texture and heartiness. All four of us were in agreement that this was the best chowder we'd ever had (my sisters' coronation more impressive than mine...) The lobster roll veered more towards mayo-y lobster salad but was tasty nonetheless. I'd recommend the chunkier, less mayo-y version at Lobster Boat which is across the street. Fried clams were tasty and generously portioned. If anything, they could've been more buttery like my personal fave Jeremy's in South Street, NYC. Service was great. The dining area was nice and homey. Five stars for the chowder. Four stars for the rest.

Every time I visit my family on the Cape we go to Captain Parker's Pub for clam chowder in a bread bowl. I absolutely love it! Paired with the Ocean Ale made for a wonderful lunch. I was told by my Dad who just turned 80 that it was available at grocery stores in the area. Hope it comes to California!

The yummiest clam chowder ever!!! That's all I have to say.

  • Joshua F.

Classic NE fare cooked correctly. I usually get the fried whole belly clams. Far superior to most of the other seafood places in the area, Capt. gives you 10-12 large tender breaded clams, not 20 small ones like most places. Here quality is correctly served, not just quantity. The same goes for the scallops, 10-12 of the biggest scallops I have seen, lighted dusted and fried. Their chowder has good flavor, I'm not a fan of the super creamy chowder, as I grew up on more of a thin broth, but its very tasty. I would say this is one of the places that is worth the wait, and the food matches the prices.

  • mc s.

I don't agree that good chowder (it's not that great imo) is the reason to go. There are a lot of aspects to dining. While you wait for your table you're cramped in the shoddy bar. The chowder has strange herbs that don't belong in my opinion, you don't get the clean fresh clam taste. The men's bathrooms are atrocious. I sense the waitstaff do NOT want to be there. You almost feel guilty for ordering. And when I found some kind of leafbug in my salad at lunchtime all the server did was shrug and say "it happens" and we were given a free chowder. Service is the most important aspect of a restaurant and this one ain't got it.

This is IT. If you are looking for the apex of New England clam chowder, then this is it. I grew up in New England and spent every summer on the Cape... My parents have lived on the Cape for almost ten years now... And we have not found better chowder. Maybe it is out there somewhere (and the Cape has so many little restaurants I would not be shocked), but I can't imagine how you can raise this to a new level. I figure the recipe is either the result of a deal with the devil or some very simple ingredient that no other chowder maker on Earth has ever thought of using. The atmosphere is comfortable and casual, the bar is lively with locals, the staff is great and the other food is pretty good too. In summer the lines can be horrendous, so go early for dinner or go for lunch. The only drawback? The location is on the side of the very busy Route 28, which can be a pain to get to in summer due to traffic unless you know the backroads. And, since it is not on the open water you don't get that Cape Cod charm. Oh well, so be it, just fall in love with your chowder and realize no sunset on the water could ever replace it. :-D

Disgusting tourist trap. The "Chowder" they have is probably all the grease drippings from the fryers. This place is so over hyped, by the radio and TV, that it makes this place look like nirvana, no its not. The fried seafood that I had, was limp and moist. I like the crispiness thank you.

The best clam chowder I've ever had, hands down. The rest of the dinner was probably worthy of 2 stars (I had the baked stuffed scrub, which was flavorless and dry). Get your chowder to go.

when i moved to the cape, everyone told me to go here. i brought a few friends and had a nice time until- 45 minutes later i had food poisoning! All i ate was the sample appetizer with the two clams, muscles, mushrooms with melted cheese - i will never go back.

Wish they had a larger choice of raw bar as what they do have is so good. Triple raw bar and martini shrimp were quite good. Service at the bar was very good even the the staff was really busy on a Saturday night. I'm told that the ladies rest room could have been cleaner but I didn't have to use it , so hey!

This place has your typical food for a pub plus the food you would expect at a local restaurant in the Cape Cod area (esp seafood, could have had a little more seafood though). The kids menu is also pretty descent in selection. Actually, our girls (3yrs old) split the kids pizza and were very pleased. Surprisingly enough the pizza was actually VERY good. Being from NY I am a pizza snob, but I was pleasantly surprised (it's not NY, but it doesn't suck!). I do have to say though, the chowda here is AMAZING!!! It is by far THE BEST chowder I have EVER had and I can see why they have won so many awards. They have won Cape Cod Chowder Fest a bunch of times and some in Boston too. It is worth a try. It is a thicker chowder though so if you like it light, don't go here. There is nothing healthy about this chowder. It is THICK and creamy and just so damn good! Of course it was a cold rainy day when I was there so that may have something to do with the fact that I enjoyed the chowder so much, but it really did make me not care about the rain. :-) It is very filling, both my wife and I could not finish the other parts of our meal since we were full. I also had the cod fish cakes w/beans and slaw. They were so good! I love crab cakes so I thought I would give these a try and they were worth it. They melt in your mouth...even though they were fried a little long. The baked beans are very sweet. We felt totally comfortable having our kids there (it was lunch time). We eat early so we beat the rush, but by the time we left it was hoping so I recommend getting there early. Based on the processes and signs they have set up I bet there are some VERY long lines for dinner so plan accordingly.

Great Clam Chowder, probably the best I've had. 10X better than Seafood Sam's down the street. I only had the chowder and a salad which were both great. The waitstaff was really great to us, they let us watch the Sox.

Fairly priced Sunday brunch menu, however if you do go, you MUST order their chowder. I've been living on the cape for three years now and it's the best I've had. The rest of their menu is pretty standard pub food. As a vegetarian I can say their veggie lasagna is incredibly cheesy (definitely not low calorie) but they do offer other veg friendly options.

Service was very good and the chowder was fantastic. Outside seating area is really nice, especially with the various fire pits, electric heaters and gas lamps. Unfortunately all down hill from there. Seafood appetizer was drowned in "butter", onion rings were sub par and entrees were not good. The swordfish was the smallest piece I think I have ever been served. The stuffed sole with Newberg sauce was inedible. The sauce was nasty and the stuffing was an over pureed paste similar to brown glue. If it wasn't for service and chowder it'd be one star.

This is another favorite from my family's Cape Cod vacations of years ago. We used to go here a lot since it was down the street from my family's cottage. I thought it was just a great little restaurant that we had discovered, but it turned out to be one of the most popular places to eat on Cape Cod. With lots of wood inside, it has a very pub atmosphere. Out back there is kind of a marsh where I imagined the staff fishing every day to catch the fresh fish they serve. The fish is fresh, but they don't catch it behind the building, luckily, since that would be disgusting. Captain Parker's has, bar none, the best clam chowder I've ever had. It's very close to heaven on earth in a bowl, or if you prefer, a cup. The rest of the food is good, but no one goes there for anything else on the menu. You might think this clam chowder should be banned from competitions when you see how many clam chowder cook-offs they've won. I was such a fan of Captain Parker's as a kid that when I was in 5th grade, for an assignment where we had to imagine our own restaurant, I created a menu for Captain Ryan's Seafood and Pasta. The menu closely mirrored that of Captain Parker's, but with the addition of 12 inch, 24 inch, 36 inch, 48 inch, and 60 inch wide cakes. When my friend came with my family to the Cape once, and didn't want to try the Captain's chowder because he "didn't like chowder." I was seriously offended. Why wouldn't he eat it? I didn't care whether or not you liked chowder. This was about respect for the most godly of food creations. You just don't turn that down! And just recently, I was happy to see the recipe for the Captain's chowder in a Rachel Ray cookbook. Give away the captain's secrets?? Blasphemy! Oh well. If Rachel Ray likes it, surely this chowder must be fit for a king! captainparkers.com

Really AMAZING clam chowder. They don't lie when they say it's award winning! Although, I'm a little confused as to why they haven't won again since 2001....who holds the Clam Chowder Title now?? Anyway, my roommate brought back the Fried Scallops from them on her first trip to The Cape and I was feening to get my hands on my own. Needless to say, I was NOT disappointed! The Fried Scallops are SO good. Possibly the best scallops I've ever had! Whaaat?!?! I ended up ordering (and thankfully sharing) 5 dishes. I know, gluttonous much? A few of us shared the Mussels Monterey (mussels done and then baked smothered in monterey jack cheese)--yum! Three thumbs up! The Calamari. Nicely done. Two thumbs up! Then I got the chowder--right--three thumbs up! Then finished off with an order of the Fish-n-chips. Again, nicely done. Two thumbs up. Our server was fantastic--I don't know how he so pleasantly and perfectly handled a table of twelve very hungry individuals. But no one had any complaints or had to ask for refills on water, bread, where's my drinks...usualness when you're with a big group. Also--they sat us within 15 minutes! Again, whaaaaat?!?! Unheard of! (Although this could be due to the 10-top waiting ahead of us leaving) My only thing is that the kitchen kept running out of dishes as the time ticked away, but I guess those things can happen at an extremely popular restaurant on a Friday night. I really have no complaints, everything was soo-oh delicious! And at the end of it all I got out of there under $50, big-people beverages included. I would go back in a heartbeat!

The staff was nice and the food was great! We walked in at about 8:45pm and there was still a wait to get seated. Seven out of the eight of us got the clam chowder and everybody loved it. Loved it! I laugh at the reviewer who complains about it being too thick, causing the spoon to stand up in the middle. That was a big plus for all of us. The main courses that were served included cheeseburgers and chicken tenders for the kids, lasagna, scallops, and a chicken caesar salad. Again, all these dishes were really tasty and the portions were good. Finally, for dessert we had cheesecake, Reese's peanut butter pie, and Oreo cookie ice cream pie. The portions were good but everybody was ready for more, because they were so yummy! We come to the Cape every summer and I'm going to make sure we come back to Captain Parker's every year.

While the rest of their food is pretty good for a Cape seafood restaurant, this is all you need to know: BEST. CHOWDER. EVER. Carry on.

Like the other poster's have said, this is a family favorite. And the chowder here really is top notch. I introduced my husband to this place a couple of years ago and he too is now a fan. If you are in West Yarmouth and looking for a place for a wonderful meal, you won't be sorry if you go here.

I don't know where the people who love this place are from, or what they're used to eating because this restaurant is AWFUL! The clam chowder is extremely salty, and fatty since chunks of fat are melted in it. I don't know why they've supposedly won best chowder for so many years. The rest of the food here sucks too, but nothing is as bad as the chowder, you can stand the spoon in it that's how thick, and disgusting it is! This in not the place to go to for a Cape Cod experience, especially for seafood. Most of the restaurants down here aren't anything to rave about, but all are definitely better than this "Restaurant".

My BF and I ate dinner here this week while on vacation. What I remember most is that it was really busy and we wanted to watch the Red Sox/Yankee game. The hostess went out of her way to get us seated in a large wrap around booth so that we could both see the tv. I couldn't believe how nice that was. I got a chicken dish that was good and my BF really loved the chowder, in fact it was the best he ever had (however he's not picky like me.) I'd say give this place a try.

I agree with the other Yelpers that the clam chowder is fantastic! We got it in a neat special anniversary mug that we got to take home. We also ordered the quahog (sp?) appetizer which was delicious! Lastly, the two of us split a shrimp roll which was excellently seasoned with a bit of dill. This was plenty of food for us and very affordable. You must stop by this pub if you go to Yarmouth!

Captain Parker's is our standby chowda joint on the cape. A coworker took me there on a business trip and said it was the best place to grab a cup on the cape. After stopping for some lactaid for him, we drove to Captain Parker's. It was about an 8 minute drive form the Hampton Inn in Hyannis. Service was good. we had a very short wait that we enjoyed with a beer at the bar. One spoonful of chowder and I was hooked. This year, while "summering" on the Cape, my boyfriend demanded a bowl of the chowder. I took him to Captain Porter's without missing a beat. We had chowder, a Caesar salad and a seafood reuben. The seafood reuben was a fried piece of cod with cheese, cole slaw and thousand island dressing. The reuben was en pointe. Delicious. Chowder was thick, creamy and excellent as always. Such a standby on the cape. mmm....

Anytime we go to the Cape, this place is a must, for the chowder alone. It's slightly creamier than other places, but I love it! Last night I also got the dinner special of Mussels (bianco), and it was insane how many mussels I got! It was so good, but way too much to finish. My mom had fish n chips, and she noticed they have improved the fries over the past few years. We'll be back!

My family of 4 came here for lunch during the summer. I have to say we loved their clam chowder. Good thing my husband and I had our own orders. I definitely wouldn't have shared hahaha. I had the lobster salad on a salad which was good. The salad was just lettuce and a few sticks of carrots, cucumbers and celery. Wish it had more veggies. My husband had the bacon burger which he liked. My daughter had the fish and chips kids meal. It was very nicely done. Very tasty. We got a basket of the iniin rings and biy were they good. Thick batter but flavorful.

Been to the captain a number of times, and have enjoyed myself. Today however was the first time I had the calamari, sorry to say but probably the worst I have ever had. My sandwich, roast beef club, was great, hope you step up the calamari, it's a popular app

Very nice staff and great food. Wait times were a bit long all around, but the volume of the restaurant late on a Sunday night must have had the staff very busy! Will definitely be back for the chowder.

Beyond being one of the only dining establishments on Cape open year-around, there isn't anything too special about Captain Parker's Pub. This isn't a must-visit, but they do serve up some pretty ok appetizers and seafood. Captain Parker's definitely caters toward the tourist industry. The entryway from the parking lot is home to a set of brochures. Walking past the bar, you're greeted by Captain Parker's T-shirts and other apparel on a dedicated table. Every place setting has a paper placemat with even more promotions. On the plus side, there is a nice gas fireplace running in the winter. The menu is a thick, padded book and is pretty extensive. There are so many specials here! There's an insert with specials, and then more specials called out on their own page. I guess they've figured out that the older Cape Cod crowd loves their specials. I've tried the clam chowder, fried pickles, raw bar appetizer plate, crunchy fish & chips, and broiled sole with newburg sauce. Nothing was outstanding. The clam chowder and raw bar were the standouts. But, I agree with others - you shouldn't believe the award winning chowder hype. There's a lot of good chowder on Cape, and Captain Parker's is pretty standard. The raw bar was pretty good; I really enjoyed the oysters and clams. For an entree, I would stick with the seafood and fried seafood options. The crunchy fish & chips didn't do it for me - the corn flake batter made the batter crust too hard for me. I would stick with the regular fish & chips. Most of the seafood options come with sides, and seem like a pretty good package. Sadly, lobster rolls aren't served in the offseason. The only lobster you'll find is in the lobster & seafood fettuccine, which is the highest-priced seafood entree and probably the one with the most sodium. I've always had pretty good service at Captain Parker's. I would imagine that your mileage could vary greatly in the summer when the temporary staff kicks in.

Super fun place. Out dated on the inside but added to the charm. Fun bar area inside and outside. Great menu with huge portions and yummy seafood. Delicious clam chowder and fried shrimp & clam strips!

We stopped for lunch. We started with the caprese salad, and I had the chowder. The mozzarella and glaze was great. The tomato was a bit under ripe, but still yummy. I'm more of a Manhattan clam fan, but the chowder was also tasty. The cape cod Reuben .... Yum. Fresh breaded fish, slaw, marble rye!!! Solid spot. Nothing jaw dropping. Will go back again!

The clam chowder is very good! In fact, so good that we took some to go in addition to having some for dinner. I had the chowder and classic spinach salad for dinner. They were accommodating by taking the blue cheese off my salad. The salad came in an awkward bowl, but whatever, it tasted good. My husband had the sesame crusted salmon which he said had a nice crisp and was juicy in the inside. He didn't care too much for the balsamic drizzle. It also came with a coleslaw which he said was warm and tasted weird. If anything, just get the chowder, it's really good!

Went to this restaurant as a second choice since we could not get in to our first choice. Was referred to this restaurant because it was big, most likely less of a wait and was told the food was good. The restaurant is big with an outdoor area that also has a small bar outside. We were a party of 6 and waited 45 minutes on a Saturday night. Not bad of a wait. Everyone in my party did enjoy their food from salmon, prime rib, blackened shrimp. I ordered a spinach salad with grilled chicken and it was good. I just feel the restaurant is dated/old and is oddly carpeted inside which was a little bothersome. I felt like I was getting a little bit from something on my legs while I sat at the table. Could probably use a big cleanup and a remodel. The 2 entrances are less than welcoming. The look and layout of the restaurant makes the food seem of lesser quality.

My boyfriend and I were so looking forward to a fresh New England lobster and were sorely disappointed with our meal at Captain Parkers. Both of our lobsters did not taste fresh and to top it all off, they came out cold. Not worth the $30 price!

Really worth the wait! We were told it would be an hour wait for a table so we got comfortable at the bar. Great service at the bar made a good first impression and our table was actually ready in 30 minutes. This is a big and busy restaurant - we did not expect the level of service we got, our server was amazingly attentive and the food was great. We will be adding Captain Parkers to our list of must visits during vacation every year.

one of the local's favorites! Drinks are great, chowder is famous and the portions are crazy big. If you are looking for great fried cape cod style seafood, they have the best seafood platters around. they are HUGE so split them!!

Excellent food. The clam closer was great. Oysters on the half shell were delicious. My husband had the steak and lobster which was delicious. I had stuffed shrimp with rice. Wonderful!!!! Sat outside on a beautiful night. Fire place was outside on the patio dinning! Topped off our wonderful meal with homemade key lime pie. One of the best restaurants in this Cape Cod town.

Captain Parkers was ok. The bar has a cool atmosphere. Outside there is a cool fire pit and outdoor bar which was closed for a private function when we were there. We were seated in a larger room connected to the bar with a lot of tables which was less interesting than the bar. And had more of a banquet area feel. The service was mediocre and so was the food. Two of us got the bourbon steak tips which were pretty tough and overcooked. The sauce and the fries were good. Someone else we were with got the half baked chicken which they said was good. We were all disappointed with the service which was mediocre at best. The waitstaff was not attentive or friendly and was gone as fast as you could place your order. Maybe it'll be better over the summer when it gets busier?

What a great meal. Lauren our waitress helped me out with some gluten free options. Very knowledgeable and the food was great. They have a GF menu, but also had items on the regular menu that were able to be gluten free. Worth the trip!

Captain Parkers is a great restaurant to go out with your family and just have a nice bite to eat. The service is excellent, the food is amazing, and the atmosphere is very nice and soothing. Yes, it may be a bit expensive, but it is worth it.

Best chowder in the world. Hands down, nothing is even close. Place will get crowded on weekends in season. A great place to grab a beer, play keno, and enjoy a bowl of their famous clam chowder. Yankee fans not welcome. Go sox!

Who doesn't love Captain Parker's? They put Cape Cod Clam Chowder on the map. I am one of a zillion people who is thrilled to see quarts of the award-winning chowder in my neighborhood supermarket on the Cape, but the restaurant is worthy of a visit. This is your grandparent's Cape Cod-- clunky captain's chairs and bulky tables in dark 1970s lacquered wood. Wall to wall carpet. Dated prints and netting on the walls. You could take points off or add them on for this. Some people plan an entire year to experience decor and food like this. Who can blame them? This is how Cape Cod began for most of us. The seasoned and friendly wait staff is at the ready to answer all your questions about the vast menu. Honestly, if you can't find something on this traditional list of dishes, you aren't hungry! Take anything. You'll love it. And you will be back.

The chowder is above average, that's about it. Expensive for the quality of food and service you get. Just meh.

Really good. We had a wait of about 45 minutes around 6pm on a Monday. Not great, but nothing terrible either. All waitstaff very kind to our party. Clam chowder was GREAT- and it takes a lot to impress me! I had the turkey dinner and loved it. It had stuffing and au gratin potatoes too. If you don't mind a loud restaurant and a bit of a wait in exchange for good service and food, I would say to try this place out! Wish we could've made a reservation, but they are so popular I understand why they don't take them.

Really nice outdoor deck and bar. Good service and food was really good. The clam chowder is a little too thick but great flavor.

  • Todd S.

The clam chowder lives up to its reputation, but we were wholly disappointed in be rest of our food. The service was good, drinks delicious as well just completely let down by the baked stuffed shrimp and the surf 'n turf - funky shrimp and a tough piece of roast beef. Would have been 2 stars, but the chowder is that good!

  • Tracy K.

We love this place! The best chowder around. Always great food and excellent service! Well worth the wait.

  • J C.

Food and service here was mediocre at best. The chowder was good but I've had better. Fried whole belly clams were $29 and for a $30 dish I expected them to taste excellent but they were bland. Alcoholic drinks were not very strong either but they are cheap so you won't break the bank drinking here. But I wouldn't go here again too much money for a less than average meal.

During the brief time that I spent living on Cape Cod, Captain Parker's was a go to spot. Clam Chowda, Little Necks, and ice cold Lager on Cape Cod in the summer time. Life doesn't get much better than that.

  • Melissa S.

Eh. Not overly impressed. Everyone is right about the chowder. Definitely worth the trip there to try it. Unique taste and it's made hardy. Could have had that for dinner alone... (and kind of wish I had). Normally I don't do pasta/pizza at the Cape: especially being I grew up with nj/NY pizza! For whatever reason, I ordered a mussel dish served over linguini. Yuck yuck yuck! Mussels were great, but the look, smell and taste of the pasta was too much of a turnoff to fully enjoy my meal. Water from the Mussels filled the pasta broth essentially making the pasta tasteless and soggy. Pasta was already over cooked to begin with. My friends who I was dining with offered their fried cod since I left most of my dinner... Wasn't 5 stars worthy. Definitely not worth a trip back.

  • Jess W.

While this is a seafood establishment, their prime rib is superb. I ordered the small - 8oz with veggies and mashed potatoes, all for under $15! Honestly, the slice of rib was much larger than the 8oz and I packed half it. The award winning clam chowder was the best that I had on the cape. Though, be forewarned that it is very creamy and heavy. I would suggest a cup or bowl rather than a bread bowl. The fried zucchini sticks were surprisingly good. My friend ordered the shrimp n fettucine in pesto cream sauce. While it was an appetizer, the portion was large enough to be an entree. Come early to avoid the long wait!

The worst dinner ever the cod was bad and tasted like soap, just paid and left!!! The staff was fine just a bad dinner I did call and let them know, I don't want a free anything

  • Alyssa J.

I give them 3 stars solely based on the chowder. It is by far the best chowder I have had and my family has been coming here for years. But besides the chowder this place has nothing to brag about. I got the shrimp scampi and the shrimp had not been cleaned. Working in the food industry I know how important it is to thoroughly clean shrimp but they had made no effort to devein the shrimp. Also besides the chowder everything is mediocre and overpriced

  • Laura M.

Captain Parkers was great!! My friend and I went here for first night of dinner on our girls trip and we could have easily eaten here every day! We started out which drinks which were priced very well. We had chowder which was AWESOME! I had lobster with mashed potatoes which was pretty good and my friend had the dijonaise - fill salmon which she loved! We were too stuffed for dessert but ended up sitting outside to the bar to have drinks and watch the soccer game. It was a beautiful night and the outdoor bad had an amazing atmosphere! The waitstaff here was very friendly and we had a great time.

I think that in a former life, or something as simple as the fact that my ancestors from The Netherlands immigrated to New England might just be why I love seafood, clam chowder in particular. This is the very first time I have ever eaten New England clam chowder in New England in North America. My virginity was lost right here. So did it meet my expectations? Yes. I will say that I can actually top the recipe myself as I have been making clam chowder since I was 7 and the only thing they can beat me at is the extreme freshness of the clams. The Cod fish and chips with two huge thick cuts were I suppose as authentic as you can get. We loved them. Knife and fork needed. Huge pieces of fish. Scallops plate Nantucket style was also a pleaser yet the beer was a let down at $6. Eating here gave me a great introduction as to how much people respect and love anyone with a badge or patch. The collection of public servant patches is grandiose indeed. I feel this location is slightly over-priced and the beer selection on tap should more accurately represent the region. There's only been what 300 years to perfect that?

    (4)
  • Mandy B.

My family and I come back often for their New England clam chowder and it is always as good as we remembered! Also, on our last visit we sat outside by their beautiful fireplace. We have never had a bad meal here!

  • Anne P.

Been back a few times. The food isn't bad. They get the job done. It is what it is, a decent pub with quick service and pretty good burgers & seafood (I'd avoid the more complicated or vegetarian dishes). Definitely wouldn't go out of my way for it, but there's a lot of crummy food on this part of the Cape & Captain Parker's is way more reliable than most.

    (4)
  • David G.

A mess. Poor service and shockingly weak food for truly high prices. Looking at the menu and seeing a $16.99 for the fish & chips makes you say "wha??". I have no problem paying that if the product is good. It wasn't, and there's not much else to say. I will mention the large bit of clamshell I had in the chowder. I was a little shocked about it, and I wasn't going to mention it, but I almost broke a tooth on it. It was probably a quarter inch in size and I kept it around as I slowly and quietly finished the chowder cause I was a bit on the hungry side. So that was bad, I know it was.

  • Sophia F.

The chowder indeed was excellent, not as salty as the Lobster Boat across the street, and was quite thick and hearty. I wouldn't say that my spoon would stand on end as a previous reviewer did. (Maybe he had a bad batch?). The Seafood Newburg was made with such a rich creamy flavorful sauce and fresh seafood. The calamari was ordinary and the marinara sauce too thin and without flavor. The vegetable du jour was boiled to death and without flavor, which I guess is how most of these places make them. The waiter was attentive and courteous. All in all, it was a good place... the chowder took the cake amongst the places we tried in Cape Cod, but the seafood dishes were fresher across the street at the Lobster Boat. For some reason, this was never posted...

  • Anna B.

We love this place. The clam chowder is the best I've ever had. We have to come here every summer. Very good for the kids as well. I took off one star because they don't take reservations and in peak months the wait can get outrageous.

    (4)
  • Riju K.

Only 20 minute wait on a Saturday. Great big place with good service and excellent food in a down home New England style casual eatery. Their clam chowder or Chowd'ah as the Bostonians say, is full of clams, potatoes and the right amount of spices. Our party was happy with all our meals which included blackened salmon, salad with lobster and chicken tenders. The caprese salad was not very authentic but I won't expect eclectic food expertise in a downhome place. Prices are typical for casual dining in the cape. Avg of $25 per person with no drinks or desert.

  • Justin W.

This place is a Cape stalwart but it's going downhill. On our last visit, service was inattentive, scallops were overcooked and rubbery (heresy for a Cape restaurant!), my wife's chicken and pasta dish looked and tasted like somebody just spilled a bunch of cans of random things onto a plate, and even the air conditioning wasn't working. Chowder's good but I've had equally good chowder elsewhere. I've honestly always thought it was more popular than it deserved, but now it's definitely not worth the wait or the money. Go to the Skipper in South Yarmouth across from Parker's River Beach: similar menu, similar prices, (unfortunately) similar wait times, but better service, better views, and much better food!

  • Kristen M.

Yummy yummy yummy Clam Chowder! Busy restaurant that doesn't take reservations. We chose to sit outside on a chilly night to avoid the wait, which worked out okay because there are outside heaters! I had the Baked Stuffed Shrimp and others in the party had fish and chips, lobster mac and cheese and cod. Everyone seemed to enjoy theirs! We also had calamari as an app and fried zucchini. The homemade key lime pie for dessert was delicious as well!

long lines and waits ,,, not sure why . We choose to go back the next day for lunch , the menu was very small and not impressive , the server made us feel uncomfortable and seemed to be more bothered to be working there. As stated by previous reviewers the chowder was very good the rest of the lunch was nothing special .

There aren't enough words to describe how much I love Captain Parker's clam chowder. It's thick, rich, flavorful, packed full of clams, has just enough potato, and is everything a New England clam chowder should be. A trip to Cape Cod is not complete without it. My boyfriend and I stopped into Captain Parker's Pub this week for some chowder, beers, and apps. The line was already starting to form for dinner around 4:30, so we grabbed two seats at the bar with no wait. Captain Parker's has its own house beer, Ocean Ale, made by Sam Adam's, and we were hoping to try some of it, but they were out. We were able to get some Cape Cod beers instead, which was fine (and just means we'll have to go back again next year). We started with the raw bar trio - 3 clams, 3 oysters, and 10 peel-and-eat shrimp - and it was delicious, fresh, and perfect to enjoy at the bar with our cold beers. Then we got our chowders, and it made for a great late afternoon stop. The mug special - where you get a mug of chowder and a clean mug to take home - is no longer on the menu, but we asked our bartender about it, and he said we could still get it. This came as a relief to us because we love these mugs - they're super thick and heavy, and we've been building a collection over the years. A mug is also the perfect amount of chowder to get if you're also ordering food. Service was friendly enough, and sitting at the bar was nice. This place can get really crowded at peak meal times, but I think everyone who visits knows it's worth the wait. I've never been disappointed with lunch, dinner, or bar apps at Captain Parker's.

Originally planned to go to our old standby since we were kids, Jerry's, but was closed this Easter Sunday. So with the help of Yelp, went to Captain Parker's Pub and it was spot on. With wood paneling throughout this was atypical Cape Cod decor. It has a strong townie flavor with various college flags, law enforcement badges and the like, and fire fighter memorabilia. The world class clam chowder to me was awesome. Very thick, creamy, with the right amount of clams. I enjoyed the seafood Rueben, which is breaded cod and monterey jack cheese. I originally was thinking lamb, but asked our wait person, who was honest with me saying that there had been some complaints from other customers. I appreciated her honesty and the service she provided was attentive during the whole meal. This a good place for families for your basic fried seafood or other such entrees. A decent casual place that reminds of Cape Cod as a kid.

The good: Drinks were reasonably priced and their own Ocean Ale was pretty good. Service was pretty decent as well. The bad: Not sure if they ran their own contest on the Clam Chowder, but it was NOT top 10. The Skipper has them beat by a longshot. Actually, the Blount clam chowder you can get at the supermarket is much better. Wife got some sort of baked fish dinner. It had no taste. I got a bowl of their "award winning" chowder and appetizer sampler. The clams, mussels, other apps - not good at all. Rolls appeared to be store bought. Generally I like to use the bread to get the sauce, but avoided that since it was just oil and nastiness. Summary: I really had to burp when I left, but was afraid I might taste my dinner again.

Not sure what the hype is about this place....think the only thing they got going for them is their chowder which I have to admit - really does kick butt! Other than that - their apps and entrees are not much to speak - overload with butter and sauce to the point you can't really taste the quality of the seafood. Service was also on the average side.

Been here last year, it was just ok then and it's just ok now. Very noisy dining room. They were out of scrod had to get chicken, other fish dinners are stuffed with a sauce, which I don't like so settled for chicken. Same as last year, only they were out of an appetizer I wanted to order. The broiled 1/2 chicken was dry, extremely crisp as if it was fried. Summer squash was fresh served as hunks (circles) on the plate no seasoning. Baked potato was hot. Chicken was greasy on the outside.

Went for the first time tonight and was extremely disappointed. My boyfriend got the fried shrimp plate which was soggy and gross and I got the mussels over pasta which I took one bite of and tasted sand and the sauce was not much better than spaghetti-os, will never go back again

just came back from captain parkers very disappointed worse service we have ever had and we have gone every year for the last 10 years at least 2 or 3 times in our vacation week. we had chicken wings and they were rubbery my husband would be done with a beer and honestly waited for at least 10 minutes before we would get bartenders attention to ask for another they never came to us we had to get there attention to order super, get a beer they never came to us or asked how we liked our food. won't be back anytime soon.

Their Clam Chowder is the best you will ever have! After trying it once, we have never went back without making sure to include a bowl! The rest of the menu is great, too. My family has been going there for years and the quality is always excellent! Great place for lunch or dinner. Also a great place to bring the kids, or not.

The clam chowder was delicious! The baked stuffed shrimp was ok. It was over priced for three shrimp.

I've had two meals here and will never go back or recommend this place. Other than cheap drinks and good chowder, my meals were awful. The first time I had a fish plate that was dryer than a desert. The meal I just had, Lobster Mac, was terrible. There was only one small claw of meat, which was overcooked, as was the pasta. Why go here when you can get their chowder just about anywhere? I would not have returned for a second meal, but some friends wanted to try it. Never again!

Stopped here while on the Taste of Yarmouth food tour over the weekend and had the most delicious lobster rolls. Service was fantastic! They were very friendly, accommodating, and were able to deal with the influx of trolley guests without any issues. Their outdoor patio was really nice and the fire pit and heat lamps created a nice atmosphere. Would love to come back and sit out there in warmer weather.

Best clam chowder! If you like thick, creamy chowder with lots of clams and potatoes, then you will love this chowder. The fried seafood is good, too. Nice and crispy. But you will come back to this place for the chowder. Enjoy your dinner on the patio next to a nice outdoor fire. Would recommend this if you are any where close. Be prepared to wait if you don't beat the dinner crowd. Ate at 5pm no issue. The night before got there at 6pm and left because we had an hour wait.

Captain Parker's makes a very good, very heavy (apparently award-winning) chowder that really is the centerpiece of the menu. When I went, I was with the whole family, so I feel like we got a nice sampling of the menu. The seafood was all cooked very nicely, however it definitely lacked some flavor and creativity. My sister ordered the tenderloin Marsala and was very disappointed. The Marsala looked and tasted more like a gravy. While it was still a nicely made dish, it wasn't what she expected from a Marsala sauce. We had an awesome waiter that made our experience a good one, but overall the restaurant was lack-luster.

Noisy, crowded, and nothing special. We both had lobsters that were okay. Potato was cold and green beans very undercooked. Left feeling disappointed.

I'm ruined for clam chowder. This place has the best chowder hands down. Every other place I go will now have a bar to be compared to! I only gave it 4 stars because there was nothing special about the atmosphere or the service. So this is a put your Pinky's down and eat good food place!

Very good dinner!! Our group had a Greek salad, Caesar salad with chicken, cheeseburger, and bourbon steak tips. All were great! Oh, and the chowder is yummy too!

The chowder is very good and so was the burger( I like plain burgers). The scallops wrapped with bacon were a little fishy. My husband agreed but, didn't mind it. The bartenders were nice as well.

Hands down the best clam chowder I've had (and I've had a lot of chowder...) I completely understand why they've won so many awards. Creamy texture, potatoes cooked perfectly, and plenty of clams. I would not recommend the calamari--I've had much, much better. I tried a mussel from my friend's entree, and I have to say their mussels are fresh, plump, and cooked in a delicious sauce.

Great food and atmosphere! Very friendly staff!! The prime rib was awesome!! Was told that they have the best clam chowder around - so good that they have an honorary lifetime win... So other restaurants stand a chance!!

The food was pretty good but the service was "unfriendly" the server never smiled at all and was to quick when she approached our table and never even asked us if we wanted dessert.....but I have to say they make the best chocolate martini! Happy days to you.

This is a small-ish restaurant with a large bar area. We went here for dinner on a packed Saturday night and we were told by the apologetic host that the wait is about 1.5 hours. It was a Saturday night with the Bruins and Orioles playing, so I understand the long wait times. Not wanting to wait that long, but longing to eat their food, we ordered food to go. The dinner was ready in about 10-15 minutes and it was fabulous! The New England Clam Chowder (or Chowdah as they call it) was fabulous. The best chowder I ever ate! My kids who are squeamish about eating clams and seafood soups were hooked on it. My wife and I ordered lobster rolls and they were out of this world! The wedges were really good too. My kids ordered from the children's menu and they also loved their food. Overall, a very good place and we will be definitely coming back here on our next vacation and perhaps dine in :-)

Very good food, friendly service, and a chowder in a class of its own. They also added an outdoor bar and patio which sit just a few yards from the Parker River a few years ago which is great. The place gets beyond busy attracting both locals and tourists. It has a bar which serves a very good house beer which is brewed for them exclusively by Sam Adams. I highly recommend Captain Parker's to anyone who is looking for a great meal, a drink, or just a cup of their world famous chowder.

I'm afraid of writing a negative review out of fear that the loyal customers here will come knocking at my door with pitchforks, but I must be true to my-Yelp-self! This place was a disappointment. This is, by no means, a reflection of their service--as the staff was very accommodating and kind. The Clam Chowder was indeed good, but it left us feeling like whales after only a couple of bites. So heavy with cream and chunks of potato, I felt that this could have been the meal in itself. If I had known I wouldn't have ordered the following dishes. Someone recommended I order the Parker's Sampler. When the dish arrived, I was utterly disappointed. The dish was completely smothered in cheese--don't get me wrong, I LOVE cheese--but my god, was there even any oysters under this cheese? None of this dish tasted good. Then we ordered the Broiled Seafood Platter, which was even more disappointing. The highlight of this dish was the scallops--they tasted fresh, but unfortunately, it went downhill there. The scrod and the swordfish lacked any kind of taste. The sole was covered in so much newburg sauce, it held no flavor of its own. The Stuffed shrimps were mediocre, and the stuffing did not impress. Overall, I was so disappointed with the food after all of the positive reviews, I wish I had listened to the few negative reviews here, and skipped this place. I will let the pictures speak for themselves.

Went there off time for lunch. My son and husband shared a fisherman's platter which was plenty for them. They had a nice crunchy batter on them. The also each had clam chowder which was thick and creamy. I had the Cape Cod Rueben. Nice piece of lightly fried fish on it, with creamy coleslaw and Swiss cheese ( wished there was i more slice of cheese on it). Nachos were plentiful with a good amount of cheese on them. Staff was awesome our waiter was friendly and joked with my son.

If you've heard that Capt. Parker's has some of the beat chowda anywhere, you have heard correctly! The burgers are pretty good as well, and the corned beef sandwich was very very tasty. The dessert menu was quite short and blah, but if you expected anything else you might want to go see a food Dr. because you have a case of DUH-itis, caused by eating too much crappy food.

  • Derek M.

The wait was ridiculous, the portions were HUGE, the food was good, and a decent value. Our server was pretty prompt for how busy they were, but not overly friendly. The side salad was the only disappointment due to it having kind of browned/wilted iceberg lettuce and being drenched in onions. The clam chowder was on point, the clam strips were done perfectly and spawn's pasta was a good size and he enjoyed it. My 2 pennies

Avoid at all cost. We just ate there. My salmon was ok, salad dressing tasted like lemon pledge. I returned it once. A manager never even came up to us to see what was wrong. Stuffed Quahog was inundated with cumin. Was charged for a 16oz beer, got a 12. Prices are aimed at tourists. No wonder in all my years coming to the cape, I have never been here before. And the place had an odd smell. We should have left when we could.

We recently ate at Captain Parker's after reading all the Yelp reviews. We all had a good meal. Here are some of the highlights and overall experiences. The Chowder- Very rich. Almost too rich. Not heart healthy, but very good and filling. The calamari app- Bland, chewy, and rings only. Lobster roll- Very good and a generous portion for the price. My only comment was that the meat was warm, not chilled so it made me worry a bit in my head if it was sitting out in the kitchen. Fish & Chips- Very good. The chips are very salty. Service is attentive and quick, portions are decent and the food came out really fast. We would return.

I think all these reviewers may be high whereas they eat everything in sight, because for the love of God, this is not chowder. This is to be completely honest, if a vanilla cake mix was mixed into a bowl of mashed potatoes with maybe, if you're lucky, one small clam, this is your Captain Parker's "chowder". When you guys get off your high, come over to my place and I'll serve you some real clam chowder. Ouch, this hurt I'm sure.

Captain Parker's never fails. Out of all the numerous meals I've eaten here, never a bad plate of food. If you're going to get the chowder, just get the bowl for a dollar more than the cup. You'll regret it if you don't.

The service was great, the drinks were cheap, the chowder was fine, and the food was awful. We were seated after a 45-minute wait, which was fine because (a) it was Friday, (b) it was summer on Cape Cod, and (c) they have a perfectly serviceable bar. The bar has a nice selection of beers on tap, as well as a list of $6 cocktails that are tasty and suitably weak for the price. The decor in the main dining room apparently has not been updated since the late 1980s - complete with paper sailing ship placemats - and is deafeningly loud. This is a family restaurant with lots of big tables, so it was to be expected. Our waitress was attentive, efficient, patient, and friendly. What happened next was not her fault. We ordered the chowder ($5.50 for a cup), in large part because every other reviewer raved about it. It tasted good -- creamy and filled with fresh clams. We know the clams were fresh because both of us came close to chipping our teeth on the bits of shell in the soup. For our main course, we ordered the broiled seafood platter ($26), which is one of the restaurant's signature dishes. This was a tutorial in how to ruin five perfectly good pieces of seafood: 1) Take shrimp, scallops, scrod, swordfish, and sole. 2) Stuff shrimp and sole with tasteless mush. 3) Drown in butter, but don't season. 4) Broil all five on same plate until brown and tasteless. 5) Serve with lumpy and flavorless Newburg sauce. We couldn't decide which of the five pieces was the worst, but the scallops were criminally overdone, and the shrimp was almost too rubbery to cut with a knife (and was stuffed with mush to boot). We have had better seafood platters at Red Lobster, and at least they have Cheddar Bay Biscuits. We came expecting to eat dessert, but after the entree arrived we pulled out our phones at the table and started looking elsewhere to finish the evening.

My boyfriend and I went here the other night for dinner during our visit to the Cape and we really enjoyed it! He LOVES Clam Chowder so naturally he went for the bread bowl which he loved. I got the Saturday dinner special of mussels over linguini and they were fabulous. The portions are a little big but you're certainly getting your money's worth. We were dressed a little fancy but the place is super casual with a friendly vibe. The staff is all very nice and we were told it would be an hour wait but it was only fifteen minutes!!

  • Rusty M.

The chowder is the best thing on the menu, I got the broiled seafood platter and it was subpar at best. It sounds like apt of food but it had more stuffing than actual seafood.

I have been a fan of Captain Parker's Pub for years. The lines to get in show many agree with me. Award winning NE Clam Chowder and great food. Seafood is local and fresh! Try the oysters Rockerfellow's they are in a class of their own. Fun place. Best to go at off times if you want to avoid long waits.

I arrived at Captain Parker's for lunch it was not full and I was the only one in the dining room. (the bar was happening though). I figured since the clam chowder said "world famous" I might as well give that a try, being that it was my first cup of chowder I've gotten the change to order on the cape... boy was I surprised when it arrived not less then 60 seconds later! spoon and crackers on the side, I thanked the waiter and ordered their Parker burger. The first thing I noticed when I went to dig into the Chowder was that it had a skin on it... like.... The kind of skin that develops on soup after it sits there for a long time.. my assumption was that they have cups of this stuff sitting there pre-portioned and when someone orders it, well.. there you go... kind of presumptuous if you ask me that they think that since their chowder is so good that it can sit out for awhile and still be good.. this however was terrible and had no flavor and I couldn't find more then two or three pieces of Clam... Luckily the Burger took longer to come out and it was by far fantastic, and the reason that this place got three stars... I may return in the future and revise this as I see fit.. right now I'm on the fence about it and that's why it's getting the rating it got...

Was here on a Saturday night half past 8 in the off-season. No trouble getting a pair of seats at the bar. They had the B's, C's and college football on 1/2 dozen flat screens in every corner. The Yankee Pot Roast was going like 'hotcakes'. That is but one of their 'signature' plates - the others are prime rib and fresh Nantucket Cod, which is nice and light - what we wanted. Both already sold out. She settled on broiled scallops, me on blackened swordfish, both superb. Drinks reasonably priced. Mid-class wine choices (blackstone, mondavi, ravenswood). Damage with tip was 4 jacksons - not bad. 4/5 stars b/c @ half past 8 they should still have had Cod.

Clam chowder is To Die For! Will definitely return next year if not just for that. Even my sister loves it and she doesn't eat seafood. Convenient on route 28 and not far from Bass River Sports. Definitely bookmarking this one for our next visit.

Yelp let us down here. The food is not good. The worst calamari we had on this trip. Even my wedge had too much dressing and was barely edible. How do you screw up wedge? My fish was not good and nobody else was raving . The service was bad, too. The parking lot was full, as was the dining room, but it was not palace I would go agai.

The best chowder and service in this area. Nothing beats Parker's chowder. Also the service is 5 stars .

One of the worst meals we've experienced in ages. To give the smallest amount of credit to where it was due, the chowder was good. That is the end of it. The rolls were rock hard and cold. The "jumbo" shrimp cocktail were small to medium at best. I had a $26 1 1/2 pound lobster that simply had no flavor. My wife had a $28 baked haddock dish that was gray and mealy. This food was flat out terrible. If you go here to eat you're a bigger fool than us. At least we warned you!

Great chowder. BUT such a long wait. The other food was middling/poor and service was lousy. If you can get chowder to go, then it's worth it. Otherwise a waste of time and money.

  • JC P.

I've been there several times through the years and they haven't changed much. Average service, bartender is arrogant/borderline rude. Over rated food, Chowder is salty and they use too much flour/corn starch. They seem to survive with aggressive marketing. Just another tourist trap. Good luck to them.

  • John J.

Heard that this was the place to go, on our first trip to the Cape we stopped by on a Sunday about 3pm. The chowder was pretty good, one star for that. I got the stuffed shrimp that were mushy and too salty, with a side of thawed out lukewarm broccoli. My son wanted clams on the half shell (2.50 each for small little necks!!!!). I suppose if your looking for a busy place to pound beers and munch this might be for you..Maybe I should've ordered something deep fried, didn't live up to the hype at all for me.

Chowder was really good but the clams were a little chewy not as tender and fresh tasting as some of the other places closer to where I stay. Glad I tried it but not worth the drive from far away.

We used to frequent Captain Parker's back throughout the 80's, and 90's, and were rarely disappointed. With family members spread out across the Cape, this was always one of our "go-to" meet up place for family lunches and dinners. Nowadays, the food is "poor to average at best", and tends to be over salted, overcooked, and just downright bland. The menu items lack imagination. In other words-boring. Pricey to add. considering what is being served. Nearly $30 for flavorless Lobster & Seafood Fettuccine. $26 for a bland and overcooked Fisherman's Platter. You get the idea. This place has made their name from their clam chowder, which in our opinion, is really nothing to write home about. And from what we've heard from reliable "in the know" sources, isn't even made at the restaurant these days, as they mass produce, to sell to commercial and retail outlets. When done right, a New England clam chowder should be rich and filling, but not sludgy or stew-like. And, it's texture should be creamy, while still maintaining a light consistency of sorts. Not here. This "award winning" chowder lacks essential seasonings, never seems to have enough clams, and as another Yelper mentioned, contains way too much flour, which makes it very very bland and sludge like. And, they must have filled cups sitting in the kitchen, just waiting for people to order, as on our last visit, all of our cups had a film settlement on top of them. Essentially telling us that the cups had been siting there for a bit. And, for $5.50 a cup, one would expect it to be freshly poured and piping hot. Service staff could use a tune-up as well, as they tend to be a bit rude. Unfortunately, and we hate to say it, but Captain Parker's has lost site of their humble beginnings and has allowed fame to take away what once made them a special place to go to. It's too bad, as we'd love to have the Captain Parker's back that we once loved.

Our initial wait time was 45min to an hour but 10 minutes later my husband and i were seated. Our meal was delicious and tasty. The clam chowder was nice and thick and could be a meal by itself. The service we received was very efficient. Our food courses were served quickly. As soon as one by finished the next course arrived. We felt rushed through our dinner but not "hurry up and leave". We did note the wait staff did buss the table quickly and they did clean the floor after messy children. Yes we will go again.

As a weirdo Rhode Islander, I prefer my chowdah tomato based, but as soon as I took 1 taste of Capt Parkers creamy white chowder, I was hooked. Without question, this is the best chowder I have ever had in...my...life. We've been coming here every year for many years, and the food quality hasn't changed. Everything we've eaten from this establishment has been incredibly delicious. There's a reason there's at least an hour wait on busy nights.

Been coming here for years even though it is a tourist trap. Food is usually solid, not overly flashy, but consistent, chowder is very good. Unfortunately today we got undercooked fried haddock. Normally not an issue, but the turn around time on a replacement was excessive. It is also unfortunate that the waitress is required to make excuses for the wait. A manager should bring out any returned food item replacement. I will be back next year. Hope for a better result. Overall decent, unless something goes wrong. At least they took it off the bill.

Came here for dinner on the Friday of Labor Day weekend. Got there around 6pm and they were immediately able to seat our party of 12 people (in two tables of 6 right next to each other). After a long wait and having to remind the waitress we finally got our drinks. I had the clam chowder to start. While it was probably the best I had out of 3 different places I tried over the weekend, I wouldn't go back for it. It was very very thick, rich and heavy. They don't hold back with the butter and heavy cream. I had the stuffed Haddock for my entree. The stuffing was suppose to be shrimp but it was just a mussy bread stuffing. The fish was bland and over cooked. And the sauce was thick and heavy, again too much butter and cream. Others in my party were similarly disappointed with their lobster rolls, salmon, and steak tips. If you're looking for a seafood restaurant nearby I suggest going to Skippers instead.

Parkers has great chowder but the menu is way to overloaded and today I got a bad selection. I'm a washashore but I think most local/natives stick to the bar and the chowder. Today, we made it for lunch. I started with chowder paired with a Cape Cod Blonde. I've had their chowder before and it is as good as the others on this site say. Creamy, nice chunks of clam and potatoes. Now visitors, I'm going to fill you in on the dirty secret of Cape restaurant clam chowder. EVERYONE HAS AWARD WINNING CHOWDER - DUH! They hold a chowder fest in the parking lot of every super market on the Cape. The difference with Parkers is Mr. Manning has actually won in competitions that matter. If I stopped at the beer and chowder, it would have been a four star. You also gotta realize, Parkers is a bit pricey due to the demand. My mistake was to order the salmon burger. I would have needed a gallon of the dill dijonaise on top to offset this arid piece of pressed fish. The grill cook took this thing out of the low boy, tossed it on the grill for 60 seconds a side and threw it between a unimpressive sliced roll. Served with lettuce, red onion and a tomato slice that was the size of my spare tire and same thickness. BLEH. Fries kind of a cute take on wedges and nice and crispy. I do believe they could do better with hand cut but that's just me. Watching the abundance of tourists (both number and girth) chow down on mounds of fried seafood was slightly amusing. I don't eat the stuff but if that's your thing, you can get it cheaper at a place over the river at the corner of 134 and 28. They should seriously serve the stuff with a side of coronary stent and a statin chaser. Would love to see the menu smaller and an addition of pan seared sea scallops with fresh sauteed vegetables.

Good service, great food! Came here for dinner, about an hour wait spent at the (very decorated) bar. Ordered the broiled scallops with mashed potatoes. The scallops were cooked perfectly, the seasoning was great, not bland, not over powering. The mashed potatoes melted in my mouth. Others ordered the smoked Gouda fettuccine Alfredo and I tried some - wow, just wow. You could definitely taste the Gouda - it was SO good! I think I would order that next time... or just a giant bowl of the Gouda sauce. Definitely a lot of options on the menu - something for everyone. Prices were about normal for seafood, and the quantity of food was good for the price paid. Prices on the soups and chowder were SUPER high. Although, I did not try them, I have to assume there are better deals elsewhere...

My husband and I along with our two daughters, ages 11 &. 8 years old ate here last night since it looked like a good place. We were all very disappointed and as true New Englanders, born and raised, we were not impressed with their food or chowder. I don't typically write bad reviews but my children didn't like their food either. My cod dish was bland, no flavor at all and my husband got the appetizer sampler which was full of oil and he found shell pieces in his food - a lot of it. We didn't mention it bc we just wanted to leave. We had a very nice waitress though and the drinks were good and reasonably priced. I would not come here again ever - over priced food - a tourist trap.

I do not get what the craze around this restaurant is about. I felt the food was mediocre. The clam chowder was the highlight of my night. Very creamy and fresh. I ordered the seafood platter and it was mediocre. overall it was not worth the 1hr and 30min wait. I felt I could have gotten the same food at a much fast manner, and probably the same quality elsewhere.

Had always counted on great food and great service. Sunday 8/24 went in around 5 for prime rib- we've always been pleased- Chowder was lukewarm, rib was marginal at best-overcooked, no flavor and tough. The only thing we can say positive was the service- our waitress was great. We always recommended Parker's-and after yesterday- won't nor will we be in any hurry to go back. Sad to say- and see-

Great food, great service and a great setting. Every time we visit our place on the Cape we make it a point to stop in for dinner at least one night. Even during the off season this place gets packed! And that says a lot. Difficult to say which item on the menu is my favorite as there are soo many good selections! Highly recommend to anyone in the area.

After reading several reviews my boyfriend and I thought we would give this place a try. We ordered the Parker's sampler, clam chowder, and lobster and seafood fettuccine. The Parker's sampler had several different seafood, including mussels, clams, stuffed mushroom, and oysters. Which was great because it allowed us to try them all. My biggest issue with this dish was it was too salty and the seafood were beyond sandy and way too cheesy. The clam chowder, we ordered because we've read many great reviews about it. It was a little more edible but I must say still a bit too salty. Flavoring was good but I wouldn't say the best I've had. The lobster and seafood fettuccine had a decent amount of seafood, more than we expected. But again the mussels had so much sand in it. The only pro about this dish was it wasnt salty butttt the food was way toooo creamy. After two bites I felt sick of eating it. I was just thankful that the waitress was quick with refilling the water because with the saltiness of the food we had to drain ourselves with water. These food are great for raising your HBP with the salt intake. My suggestion to them is lower the salt when cooking... There are salt on the table for a reason. If the customers prefer a little more saltiness, they can add the salt themselves. I would not go back and I absolutely do not recomment eating here

we ate outside on a chilly night this week but it was so lovely because of the heat lamps and firepits. i love when you go out to eat and the food is good AND the experience is nice as well. i love that captain parker's is unique in that sense. the food was great and we'll have to make a stop here on our future trips to the cape :)

Average casual family restaurant. Fans come for the chowder which is now sold all over at many other establishments. Nothing memorable as far as the other meals.

We only have 3 days a year to take a vacation and we included Captain Parkers on our list of places we wanted to go on the Cape. Last year was very nice .. this year not so good ! Waitstaff was OK. Chowder was OK. Scallops were Ok. Wife's fish wasn't.... she sent it back after 2 bites and she never does that... didn't want to try anything else after that. I took a little taste and it wasn't "right" . Sorry Captain but we won't be back .

Always my last stop on the Cape and for good reason- the best clam chowder I've ever had. I don't throw around the word "best much" nor do I give out 5 stars that often. However Capt Parkers earns it strictly based on clam chowder. Crazy I know. But honestly the best chowder you'll ever order, and this is coming from a guy who typically prefers is chowder to come from the Manhattan variety. My first time in Capt Parkers I ordered an appetizer (Quahog perhaps?) That was too much, the chowder is good enough and rich enough to be a full meal. Last time I ordered two pints to go and brought them home to PA- I think I ate them in 4 days. Highly recommended!

I had heard such great things about this establishment and I really tried to like it. My family knows I love my Chowder, and being in the Cape I had to have the "Award Winning Chowder" from Captain Parker's. Walking into the bar area reminds me of some of my old haunts in upstate NY. Exposed wood, low ceilings, a golf ball ceiling section, patches from police departments, fire departments, military branches and units adorn almost every square inch of the rest of the ceiling. However, one thing that should've tipped me off to the cuisine is that no one in the place was under 60 - aside from us. My chowder came out and was bland. Bland beyond belief. If I wanted stock, cream, clams and potatoes I could've gone home and done that myself. There appeared to be no spices in the soup and I couldn't add enough pepper. One thing about the restaurants I visit, is I want the food to be seasoned to an acceptable level, and then allow me to make up the rest from there. This however, needed onions, garlic and a lot of pepper to make it acceptable. The bread "boule" as they called it was doughy and the crust was flaky and a bit salty. I then went with the fried fish sandwich. It too was bland. I emptied the tartar sauce side on the fish, threw on some malt vinegar and two lemon wedges to coax any amount of flavor from the flaky white fish. The breading was flavorless. I totally understand the need to cater to your clients, and seeing who the clientele was, was an indicator that they cater to the low -sodium set. They have to keep their blood pressure low. All said, I'll bypass this chowder next time. I was glad to have experienced better during my trip.

The five stars are definitely given for the clam chowder! Did I say clam chowder, yes, I just said clam chowder. This is the clam chowder I judge all other chowders against. All others meaning: every where on and near The Cape. I just love classic New England clam chowder and this is by far the best I have ever had. So thick and creamy the oyster crackers can stand on its side in it; so tasty I just want a bucket of it. I was on the Cape for a week and made a point of ordering chowder at every restaurant I went to. And the result? I came back to Captain Parker's at least 3 times in that week. Does the restaurant offer other things? Maybe, I don't know...all I had and all I wanted was more of their chowder. Oh, I think the clams casino was also good. Captain Parker's, you have ruined me, I can't really eat other chowders and be happy anymore!

Super busy Friday night, get reservations if you can. Rolls were nice, staff friendly and helpful. Prime rib was delicious, came with broccoli that was cooked just right, blackened chicken was tasty and not too dry. Children's serving of pasta was BIG and tasty. Overall a great dinner for a reasonable price. If you're looking. For somewhere quiet this is not the place; the packed parking lot an indoor and outdoor bar draw a crowd and obviously so does the food. Family friendly and well worth the $$ and wait.

Wow what a disappointment! Came here for lunch right when it opened. Our waiter was an older man who wasn't too friendly. The lobster bisque and gazpacho were both equally awful. The bisque wasn't flavorful at all. The gazpacho was pretty much liquefied ketchup in a giant glass. The only good part of the meal were the oysters. We also got a lobster roll to share. It was unimpressive and way below the quality of other lobster rolls in surrounding restaurants. We may have just ordered items that they are not particularly good at or known for. But if they're going to put something on the menu, they better know how to make it taste good! We will not be returning/recommending this place

1 star for the great chowder! 0 for the rest of the meal! Ridiculously over cooked steak tips! Asked for med. rare, got shoe leather. Fish inedible. Not to mention just about sitting on another parties lap! Tables are way too close! If we Ever go back it will be for chowder in bread bowl ONLY!

best place in west yarmouth without any doubts. great food if you are looking something not greezy. fresh local draft beer. light specious atmosphere. a/c inside that is important when it 90 outside. they also have great patio bar. recommended!!!

Another decent place to visit while at the Cape for some great chowder! It seems like every where you turn there is a restaurant with awarding winning chowder. This place is a legit place for chowder. Their food on the other hand is average at best. I like that there is police, fire badges all over the place here. They are literally hung all over the walls. It is cool to try to fine a patch that is from a area where you live. I will come back just for the chowder most definitely.

I had the baked scrod which was way too overcooked with some tasteless cream sauce. The NE clam chowder was better, but not as good as Skippers. We were with a large party and the waitress was attentive and really friendly. Prices were on par w/other cape restaurants. Skippers was the better choice of the two.

Best chowder around. Always need to make a stop in here when I'm on vacation to have their awesome food and see our favorite waiter Scott. I see previous reviews of people complaining the chowder is too thick. It's CHOWDER it's supposed to be thick! That means they know what their doing.

This restaurant has the absolute best clam chowder I've ever had. And I'm from RI, and I've had a lot of clam chowder. I came here on a pretty busy Saturday night in the middle of August, so when I was told the wait was 1.5 hours for 6 people, I wasn't super happy but I also wasn't surprised (and might I note, we did not wait more than an hour in the end). To anyone who docks their rating of this place for the wait time, what exactly do you expect on a weekend night in the summer on Cape Cod?! And it WAS worth the wait. So, I already mentioned how amazing the chowder was. But it's also FILLING. If you're starting with chowder, you better expect to take half of your main course home, or you might explode. I followed my chowder with the baked stuffed shrimp, of which there were only four but they were HUGE... and I could barely get 2 of them down. Of course, you also get delicious, crispy rolls, and potato & vegetable with the meal... so between all of it, I felt like I was going to explode after dinner. But in a good way :) The service was also great... and the prices are far more reasonable than many other places in the area. I highly highly recommend this place, especially if you're looking for a nice place to have dinner without breaking the bank.

  • Joanna F.

The four stars are solely for the clam chowder. It was the best clam chowder I've ever had. Everything else was serviceable. Service was ok, my steamed lobster was good, and the prices were reasonable. They also had a surprisingly good beer selection and a pretty bumping bar. Do I think it was worth the 1.5 hour wait? Absolutely not.

My family and I went down to Cape Cod on our recent trip to Boston and, of course, being in New England, we went on the hunt for the Best Clam Chowder in the area. We were a little worried about being out and about on Mother's Day, but thankfully, arriving around 2 pm, there was no wait at Captain Parker's. There were actually an abundance of tables. Everything on the menu looked AMAZING. However, we settled on the Clam Chowder, Baked Stuffed Shrimp, Newburg Special (I think it was called), and the Lobster Salad Roll. Let's just say, everything was so good that there was not a drop left on our plates. This was the first time I had tried a Lobster Roll - wow, I've been missing out! I was craving another one the very next day and wished I could go back to Captain Parker's right then to get another one. And the clam chowder? Perfectly creamy and thick with lots of clams. Thinking about it is just making me drool. Of the four things we got, the Baked Stuffed Shrimp would probably be my least favorite, but it was still very tasty. Finally, the fish in the Newburg Special was so tender. Remember, though, that because everything is very creamy and rich, you do get very full at the end of it all. The people working there were all very friendly and I do hope I get a chance to go back to Cape Cod so I can go again! Also, everything is pretty decently priced for what you get!

I prefer Capt Parker's for a couple of beers, but decided to take the family out for dinner. We went early to avoid the crowds & got seated right away. Our waitress was friendly & attentive. Started with stuffed quahog which was huge, nicely spicy & full of chopped clams. Really good. Chowder was flavorful & rich...too rich for me actually. Had the lobster salad over greens which was very tasty...salad could have been more imaginative though...consisted of chopped lettuce, cucumber spear, tomato quarters, celery stalk & carrot spear. Looked like salad my kid might make. Lobster tasted fresh & was lightly seasoned & mayo'ed. Everyone else was seafooded out & opted for land fare...prime rib, grilled pork chop & cheeseburger all got thumbs up for being good but not great. Steak fries got a double thumbs up for greatness. Capt Parker's is worth a trip but maybe just for beers and apps.

Solid good seafood in a very charming setting with good service. No complaints. I had the broiled lobster (one a half pounds) and the lobster meat was really fresh and yummy. My boyfriend had the mixed seafood platter and let me eat from his plate - also really good. I don't recall what my other friend had but she seemed to enjoy it as well. Finally, we all had a cup of Clam Chow'da and, while I wouldn't say it was the best I ever had, I managed to finish every last spoonful. I would definitely give this place two thumbs up!

I never eat chowder any place else. It's either watered down or milky or tasteless. Cap't Parker is a must stop on our annual vk just for the chowder, and it's never different, always perfection!!!

I came here with my family after a long day of beach-lounging and relaxing. We were in full tourist mode with our Cape Cod sweatshirts and sunburns. Appetizer: Shrimp Cocktail served in a martini glass. Shrimp was excellent, very fresh, and the sauce was perfect. Presentation was nice. The waiter was a little to "jokey" for my taste, but was friendly and quick. My Dinner: Lobster Salad Plate (one of the specials). I LOVED it. However, it's important to specify that it was lobster salad, heavily mixed with mayonnaise, garlic, and some other spices. The lobster salad roll was the same (my husband got that). If you're looking for a pure, unadulterated lobster roll, this was something quite different. Delicious, but different. We went early in the season, June 1st, so on a Friday night at 7pm we were seated right away, no wait at all. I would imagine in peak season that's a different story. I will absolutely go back here again, but from the sound of it I'd time it for off peak hours. Probably worth a wait, but I prefer to get in and out.

Best Clam Chowder I've ever had in my whole life!! I don't care what the other yelpers say! It was flavorful, not too salty, had tons of clams, was just the right thickness and it was an endless bowl of soup! (haha no not really, but their cups and bowls were definately bigger than I'm used to when I'm getting clam chowder). Ok, enough about the clam chowder for now... The service was friendly and the rest of the food was great too! For appetizers we ordered Oysters Rockafeller and Calamari. It was my first time having Oysters Rockafeller and I enoyed it... It was like a cheesy baked spinich dip with an oyster surprise in the middle. (And guys if it's NOT supposed to be like that.. please let me know! :P) I ordered the Shrimp and Fettuchinie in Pesto appetizer as my entree and it was the biggest appetizer I've ever seen! I barely ate that but that was because I had already eaten every single bite of the appetizers and chowder! The next time I'm going back... I'm gonna eat nothing but the clam chowder there and still leave with a big, full and happy chowdery belly.

Captain Parker's has the BEST clam chowder that has ever touched my lips. Thick, creamy, plenty of clams, perfectly cooked potatoes. OMG amazing. This is an institution, it is hard to miss the fact that it has won multiple awards, been featured on one of Rachel Ray's television shows. Every time I pass the parking lot it is packed full of cars. Whether you live in Yarmouth, are vacationing or just passing through Captain Parker's is a must.

Honestly, the only good food we had at Captain Parker's was the chowder, which was wonderful. Everything else was sub par. We won't go back now that we know the chowder can be purchased in local grocery stores.

Great seafood place, perhaps the best of its type in the yarmouth Dennis area, best clam chowder I ever had. 3 people in our party ordered the fish and chips and universal agreement was that it was the best fried fish each ever had. Bit more expensive than similar places nearby but worth it for fresh quality. Highly recommended!

Great food! The clam chowder was amazing!! My wife got the clam strips which were cooked perfectly and not overcooked like many other places. I had the cod Ruben from the specials menu which needs to make its way to the main menu! No complaints at all !

I get to the Cape a few times a year and always try to find a new place to eat my favorite food: fried clams. Now there's no secret recipe for making these and it all comes down to how many you get for the price (always spend wherever one goes) and how un-greasy they are. Captain's did a nice job with both. Given it's location on Rte 28 I can only imagine the hoards that come here in-season. If you don't have to wait I say stop in and give it a try.

Went in Saturday in February and had to wait twenty minutes. I ordered the chowder which was good. I don't think it is the best on the Cape but who am I. I loved the menu and really could not decide what to get. I decided on th efisherman's paltter which was loaded with scallops, shrimp, fish, clams. I am a bigger guy that is taking a break from being on the diet and I sent a lot of seafood back. I like it when at a restaurant you get some value for you money. That happens at Capt. Parkers. The dessert selection was good and we got the apple dumpling sundae. Very good. The server was nice, but a little busy and that is the only reason this is not a 5 star review. I will be back soon. Trying to convince myself it is a shor rider from Boston.

I've now been here twice, the most recently on 6/20/12. The food was mediocre at best, the waitress was so phony-nice it was insulting, and the host acted like it was almost a hassle to seat us. Oh, and btw, all of this came at a pretty lofty price... nearly 50 bucks for two. I got the lobster roll, which looked like it came from a supermarket and had a stale bun, with fries which were so old that they were inedible (basically precooked a long time ago and then reheated), and cole slaw which tasted sour, like it had been sitting out a while. Even the Sprite which I ordered was more or less tonic water with a slight tinge of flavor. My wife got fried shrimp, which were soggily-breaded, with the same inedible fries and cole slaw alongside. Bottom line: no way am I going back here ever again, and I'm telling my friends the same.

Have gone to this place for 28 years. Great seafood. A Must-go-to icon of Yarmouth. Very consistent in delivering quality with only a few disappointments. The early-bird specials give you real reduced portions so the value is questionable. Get the real-meal and be appropriately filled. And about the chowder - without a shadow of a doubt the best you will ever have, anywhere any time. A must-have.

Award winning chowder is the main reason for visiting Captain Parker's. The chowder really is the best that I have ever had. The rest of the menu is enjoyable as well. You will get typical Cape fare such as fried clams and boiled lobster and it is all delicious. The atmosphere is casual and simple in a pub setting but it is very comfortable.

  • Mike W.

Had a good meal here. Wait time was less than expected. The server brought hot rolls and butter out right away, took our order and the food came very quickly. It is your typical fare with a lean towards seafood. Nothing groundbreaking, the meals were what we expected. The chowder was very good. Apparently they have award winning chowder. Seems everyone has award winning chowder on the cape. Anyway, overall it was very good. Wouldn't hesitate to go back.

On the way to Provincetown, my boyfriend and I had skipped lunch and so hungrily arrived here at 3 pm on a Thursday. Needless to say, every table was empty and every barstool was occupied. We were seated and ordered two clam chowders and 20 oz beers with an oyster platter to start. The oysters were a little small but flavorful. The plate was priced well at $14 for six oysters and ten shrimp with all the fixings. The clam chowder was delicious and full of seafood. I think I could eaten another bowl if the beer hadn't filled me up. Service was decent and not over the top. Overall, a really nice rest stop on our road trip.

I don't want to spoil party, but I truly regret I visited this place without reading reviews thoroughly. I mean, I did read reviews, but was overexcited by rating of this over-hyped place. As others mentioned, 1.5 hours waiting time is not worth it. Clam chowder so many people get excited about is high-carb potato filled powder and definitely not the best out there (even Brazilian grill's one was much better!) Steak was OK, though, thus I am giving 2 stars instead of 1. This place really not worth visiting. The one we visited right after that crossing the street (lobster boat) despite bad rating (and I agree with many reviewers out there!) had much better choice, atmosphere and price at 9:30PM. Captain Parker's pub is a hype and tourist's trap as others mentioned before. Will never go there again.

This is the first time I can say that Capn Parker's was only OK. The chowder was good, though not "award winning". The broiled seafood platter was not that good, very disappointing. The seafood fettuccine and seafood casserole were good. Overall, not a good dinner.

So I was told this place has the best Clam Chowder around. When I arrived, the sign on the road as well as inside the place also confirmed this. I knew with all the hooplah, chances were good that I was in for a let-down. Well, I would not go so far as to say it was a let down, the food was okay and the service was friendly. I had the chowder and fried shrimp. My friend had a fried cod. Well, as you know, it's generally a given that if something is fried it's going to be at least good (if your American that is). The food was cooked correctly, right temp & served promptly. Mine certainly could have used a little more seasoning for my taste but again, nothing wrong with it. Do I recommend this place; sure. If you're hungry and want to know you're going to get decent service and decent food and you're in the area, it may be a safer bet than others if no info is available on them. That said, after having been to numerous local joints in New England with similar; non-directed menus_ I're sure any of the 5-10 joints within 2 blocks are equally as safe to try. If you want to make a special trip for something; I would recommend Wimpy's in Osterville (about 10 miles away) and go for the Seafood Diavolio; it is amazing. So good I had it twice in 3 days.

whoa...that was some clam chowder! it was so creamy and thick, i could've had it as a meal by itself! ok, that might be slightly exaggerated, but beware if you're going to order even an appetizer or two with your bowl of clam chowder. the boyfriend and i made the mistake of ordering oysters rockefeller, shrimp and pesto fettuccine and garlic bread with cheese - all appetizers. we barely made a dent in all the dishes and were only able to finish the oysters rockefeller. i wish our waitress, albeit cordial but friendly, warned us about the serving sizes. we ended up taking home the fettuccine and garlic bread (or what i called pizza since it was so large) and forgot about our craving for soft serve ice cream. instead, i was ready for a nap! don't be fooled by the "pub" in captain parker's pub. while there's a bar area, there are also 2 dining areas and there were many families with young children here. be prepared for at least a 30 minute wait, but don't worry, when it's your turn you'll hear your name blasted over the speaker system.

Ummm, unless your taste buds are dead, you love eating salt by the shovel, or you're so used to eating garbage that you can't differentiate whats good and whats not, AVOID Captain Parker's. I lived in Massachusetts pretty much my whole life, lived on the Cape for 8 years, and can guarantee you this is NOT the best clam chowder as Captain Parker's claims. Clam chowder is supposed to be thick, but not so thick that your spoon stands straight up when put it in the bowl. Captain Parker's is most definitely a tourist trap, a horrible, horrible tourist trap. Save yourself the time, money, and pain!

This restaurant just started serving breakfast from 8am to 11am. We went twice and were pleasantly surprised...excellent breakfast...waffles with fresh fruit...perfectly prepared poached eggs on hash...super service...the reason for 2 stars...we had someone drive from Falmouth to meet us for breakfast today... We arrived at 10:30...the manager decided to end breakfast a half hour early so he could have one hour to set up for lunch... Who does that? What restaurant can't transition from breakfast to lunch with a full half hour?... Most do it with no problem at all and no time in between. Who closes a dining room a half hour earlier than the advertised time when people clearly make plans to drive there. Ridiculous. That manager was inconveniencing customers in order to make things easier for himself. Don't go to breakfast there on the weekend after 10 or you may get shut out!!! Basically they were open just a bit over 2 hours for breakfast...and the guy was already stressed. Too bad........also want to note that no one was waiting at the time and the whoe middle section with the booths was empty...a few eating on patio... Only the big room looked busy, .... They were not backed up. I was told I could come back at 11:30...lol.

Heard this place was amazing but it did not live up to the hype for me. There is always a long wait here. I tried the chowder and was not impressed. Strong black pepper flavor. Maybe because I had the chowder at Cabbyshack in plymouth the night before which blew this one out of the water. The fish and chips was not worth the money either. $16 for 2 small pieces of fish and a plate full of chips? My wife ordered the prime rib which came way overcooked. She loved the rice pilaf though. Our waitress was very nice and they did accommodate us in letting us sit outside even though it started to rain.

I finally understand why people were praising the chowder at Captain Parker's Pub. It's because Captain Parker's Pub won Chowderfest in 2000, 2001, 2006. I must say it was delicious. Clams tasted fresh, potatoes had nice texture, and soup had a lot flavor. All of us totally enjoyed it. It was creamy not starchy like Lobster Pot @ PTown. It is annoying that a lot of places in Cape town declared themselves having an award winning Chowder. Now, for the entrees - I ordered Pot Roast and both of my friends order Prime Rib. It was odd to order beef dishes while vacationing @ the Cape. We are very glad that we ordered it since Pot Roast was cooked very well. The meat melted in my mouth. It wasn't anything to write home about but was glad it was yummy enough to eat it. Prime Rib was delicious. I've had Prime Rib at many places and this placed 2nd on my list. The 1st on my list is House of Prime Rib @ San Francisco. This Prime Rib was juicy, flavorful, and melted in my mouth. Overall, we were very pleased with our dinner.

My family and I have been going to Captain Parker's for 25 years. It's been a generally reliable place to get a good meal at a decent value, with good service and a lively atmosphere in a cozy, local place. You'll still get all that, but we've seen steady price creep the past few years, much of which I don't understand. I know seafood has risen sharply, but not ALL seafood. Lobster is pretty cheap these days but CP's (and most restaurants) still peg it as "market price." At $5.99 a pound retail it's about the least expensive seafood available! Same for CP's fried oysters, which were always under $13 but are now market price. Why? Most oysters around the Cape are farm raised and plentiful. Changing their price on a whim sounds like gouging to me. I understand maybe doing this for clams and scallops, but that's about it, especially once summer's over and it's mostly locals dining there. Another example: last weekend my daughter got shrimp scampi for $24.99. That's pretty steep for pasta and tomatoes with five or six shrimp. All CP's apps have gone up considerably, too. I guess they have to pay for that swanky new outdoor deck and bar somehow. Or they're just getting a little greedy. If you've never been, by all means go for the excellent chowder and fried seafood. But we're dropping Captain Parker's from our rotation for a while, which is kinda sad. Let's see what next spring brings. (Jerry, I hope you're reading this.)

I read all the other reviews and must admit the wait time other reviewers complained about had me concerned. So I had a backup plan which as it turned out was unnecessary. We didn't have any wait at all and this was at 6:15pm. My wife and son had the clam chowder which they said was excellent. Then my wife had the Seafood Newburg...she said it tasted really good but was a little light on the seafood. My son had a big plate the fried clam strips that he really enjoyed. I had the the crunchy fish and chips...the fish was fried to perfection and the fries were cooked well but average taste. The service was friendly enough but thought could have been better. The server seemed to ignore my younger son...when taking beverage order, meal order and when the food was delivered. Overall, a very good meal and I will go back again if I'm at the cape.

Wow, this place was busy when we came here for lunch. I got the chowder in mug which I got to keep. Pretty cool!!!! It is still sitting on my desk with pens and pencils. The chowder here is really good and it's filling. I think everyone felt stuffed after finishing their cup. Plus, it's conveniently located next to a bunch of outlet shopping areas like Reebok, etc. So, you can relax after eating here.

Friendly bar and restaurant for locals and tourists. Lots of character and the staff seem to like where they work. Good selection of beer including an excellent exclusive Captain Parker's brew from Sam Adams. Definitely give it try. Stuffy was ok, but raw littlenecks were great. We ordered a second set. Chowder is delicious. Thick and smooth with plenty of flavor. Some may think it's a little salty but I liked it. The Seafood Newberg was exceptional. Worth coming back for.

We ordered the clam chowder, which was really excellent and therefore garners four stars on its own, but the other items were average. I got the lobster roll which was not the best I've had.

We finally managed to eat here on our last day. We went @ 4:15. Any normal time and it's an hour to an hour and a half wait. We are not ones to sit wait that long when there are plenty of orher fine choices. The service was fast and friendly. The clam chowder was one of the best we've ever had. So good. We ordered the Raw Trio app. That was also fantastic. Unfortunately, the main courses was ok. I had the lobster seafood fettucini. It was ok, but tastes exactly as you would expect. Nothing special about it. The wife had the one of the daily specials. Lobster & Scallops in a newburg sauce over rice. Again, it was ok, a little sweeter than expected. Definitely check it out. But do it when you decide you can make an early meal.

Scallops wrapped in bacon - an appetizer was excellent or better. Enough for a meal. The seafood scampi was excellent. Good service. Fairly priced.

Excellent chowder and lobster bisque. The Seafood platter was also very good, but a little pricey, for the portion, good enough to get again though. The drinks were very good and reasonably priced. Overall its a great place to go with friends for a few drinks, dinner, or just snacks, and the chowder / bisque can't be beat.

Best chowder in new england. Aside from the chowder, this place has reliable and tasty food. The atmosphere is family friendly so in the summer you may want to avoid it if you don't like to dine among large families. The service is friendly and will gladly offer there recommendations upon request. If all you really want is a drink or to eat at the bar, this place will satisfy your need. In addition to a few tvs in need of an upgrade carrying sporting events, they offer Keno as well.

Very good. Blue chhese hamburger done medium-rare and perfect, fish and chips excellent, cold beer. The chips rocked! It is a classic cape establishment that does it well. Server from Md. was very pleasant. Thank you CP'sP.

Have been hearing about this place for a while from non seafood eating friends... they have the BEST prime rib around!! Finally mustered up a visit right before Labor Day weekend with a bunch of friends. We were there on a Thursday night, and it was PACKED. We waited about an hour for a table for four. Started out our meal with appetizers - chicken fingers and bacon wrapped scallops. And YUM - those scallops were good! Thick and juicy and everything just TASTES better with bacon. Then... the monster plates of prime rib came out. I think they weighed about a pound each?? Get the Captain's cut - it's totally worth it. Super thick and super juicy sitting in au jous, and served with your choice of potato and the veg of the day. I'm still thinking about that awesome cut of meat right now. It was just TENDER and fatty and oh so delicious! Service was good, and the food is worth coming back for. I'm going to have to try the chowder everyone keeps talking about! :)

Excellent in every way. Chowder, lobster bisque fabulous. Fried clams with and without bellies delightful. Seafood lovers delight! Excellent service, great bar drinks and nice atmosphere. New outside bar and deck. Highly recommend

Chowder was great, bartenders were super-friendly and the beer was cold. I can say it was the best chowder I've had because the only other stuff is out of a can. I will admit we stopped in to Molly's first because of a recommendation, but the kitchen was closed. After that I bet it gets wicked busy (local speak) in the summer time.

Decent place, I was expecting more from the other reviews. I went there twice. The first time I ordered the baked filled scrod, and my gf ordered the seafood platter. The scrod was ok (nice bell-peppery filling), while my gf was not estatic about the sauces the seafood came with. The second time we started with a clam chowder and a lobster bisque. The clam chowder was pretty good, while I was not impressed with the lobster bisque. I then ordered a lobster roll and she ordered the seafood scampi. The lobster roll was ok, although I prefer them more meaty, while this one has very small pieces with lots of mayo. For the price I was expecting bigger lobster pieces. It came with fries, and those were very good. The seafood scampi was a nice, big plate of seafood, but it was completely unsalted, and we had to add quite a lot of salt to make it palatable. The linguine in the plate were mushy and overcooked. We finished with a key lime pie, which was nothing special. Overall, I would recommend a visit if you are in the area for many days, but I would set my expectation straight, this is not a 4-star place.

Had a cup of their clam chowder. The very best I have had. The wait was short and the staff really friendly. Dinner and drinks for two with these really incredible onion rings as an appetizer. Under 80 bucks. I will definetly go back.

I'll go along with most of what I've read here. Got there around 8, a 1 hour wait was actually around 20 minutes. Sat in the dining room, lots of big screens to watch Preseason NFL and Red Sox. Clam Chowder was indeed top notch, fried haddock with fries was decent. We came back this year after coming in last summer, so it definitely made and impression. Very friendly wait staff.

People are on raging crack if they love this place. Went here two days ago with the boy with high expectations......FAILED EPICALLY!!! The waitstaff was ok....nuff said about that. The food was fucking terrible. I don't care that I ordered salmon on a Greek salad and you're "not supposed to get salmon on the cape" BULL FUCKING SHIT! The salmon...picture this....literally get the image of a ruler in your mind...and then look where the 3 inch mark is....and I mean literally the width of a ruler, and 3 inches long.....NO LIE!!! The smallest fish portion I have ever gotten at a restaurant, unless of course it were a part of a gourmet "prix fixe/chefs tasting menu" if you will, at a high end establishment. And it wasn't even cooked well...it was soooo ragingly overcooked...GROSS. Granted people, I got the meal because it was one of the LEAST expensive options, I feel weird ordering food items I feel might be too expensive....esp. after you start dating someone new....this is a new concept to me and I am trying to adjust, but it does emphatically NOT change the food quality. The boy got a stuffed quahog to start, he had been here in previous years, and noted that they changed the recipe (in a positive manner), and presumed they may have even added a little linquica and bacon. I tried a bite....Hmmmmm where's the fucking crab? IDK. LACKING! Ummmmm yeah....it left much to be desired, although the flavor was decent, with a subtle "bite." He got the fried clam plate with fries...honestly it looked pretty legit, and he was happy with it, I didn't partake, but I bet it was pretty yummy. But still, my meal was soooo horrendous, I will never recommend, nor will I return...Please and Thank you kindly :)

You can't go here and not order the clam chowder. It should be illegal not to order it. This is the best clam chowder that I have ever eaten. I used to drive a hundred miles to get it and I am quite sure that the reason I moved to the Cape has something to do with the proximity of this delectable chowder. I always get a bowl.... but then I find that I can't eat a whole dinner on top of it. I have the solution....they have stuffed mushrooms as an app. There are four good sized mushrooms stuffed with a seafood stuffing and topped with oooey gooey yummy cheese. The sliced lemon that comes with it, when squished over the top, cuts through and complements the cheese and stuffing, and takes this appetizer right over the top. My husband and I like to get two chowders and one mushroom app to go and we eat at the beach in the cold weather. A fun alternative on a day when you really don't want to go in and sit down somewhere....you know- when you are having a 'bad hair day' and you are wearing your 'play clothes'....... This food is the bomb !

Can an award winning chowder recipe carry an entire restaurant? Apparently the answer is yes. Thought we'd try this place since it has overwhelmingly positive reviews. Here's our take. The clam chowder they are known for is pretty stinking good, although a bit heavy on the thyme for my taste. My wife got the salmon and she said it was ok, not great. I got the broiled seafood dinner and while it was a decent amount of food, the overall taste left much to be desired. In all seriousness, I've had better tasting seafood combination platters at diners and we both agreed that we've had much better food on the Cape and at places more casual than this place. The interior of the restaurant is nice/casual and the bar area in particular is decorated with various sundries. Our server was pleasant enough but not incredibly attentive (no drink refills until check time). I may not be from NE but I know good food and this isn't it. If you're looking for great chowder and you're not at all picky about the quality of the rest of your food (quantity over quality), then this is the place for you. From our experience you can easily get much tastier food elsewhere on the Cape though so I'm not sure why you would bother.

I would of gives a 5 for the chowder alone. It's probably the Best I've ever had. Tons of clam and flavor. Me and my boyfriend's mom made the early bird specials which had 9.99 complete dinners with salad and a dessert included. I got the baked stuffed sole for $6 less than actual price. It was very good, tender and there was shrimp in the stuffing. I definitely recommend this place if you are in the area.

  • Aaron D.

Not too much to say. You're average, run of the mill Cape Cod seafood and pub joint. I agree, excellent clam chowder. Came out piping hot. Nice and thick with no weird ingredients (had some other chowder on the same trip with carrots and celery... never seen that, nor do I want to again). Had a roast beef sandwich for lunch, which was nothing spectacular. Fries were pretty good, beer selection was small. Wife got a grilled cheese which literally had one slice of cheese on it. Talk about cheap. I would recommend this place if you're looking for a decent bowl of real New England Clam Chowder, otherwise, the food is the same as any other pub in town.

Great Clam Chowder, but that is about all.

Chowder is even better than what other reviewers had to say...definitely the best I've ever had!!! Lovely crusty dinner rolls alongside, and a shared plate of lightly breaded and lightly fried calamari made for a wonderful late lunch! Caramel appletini was a perfect whistle-wetter for only $4. Cpt. Parker's Ocean Ale (brewed by Sam Adam's) was not so exciting, but always happy to try new beers. Service was OK, not the best I've had. I'd be back in a heartbeat, if only for the chowder...and the rolls.

I'm not sure if you know this, but Captain Parker's serves clam chowder. Captain Parker's is Cape staple in West Yarmouth. Interestingly enough, Captain Parker's is situated on the Parker River. Ok, fine, I'll get to the chowder. Captain P.'s has what is allegedly the world's best clam chowder. It has won the triple crown of Chowder Fests (Boston, Newport, and Cape Cod) and was even retired into the Hall of Fame at the Cape Cod Chowder Fest. Now, this isn't some honorable line of predecessors. The reason they did this is because it wasn't fair that Captain Parker's was kicking everyone's butt year after year. It's like Barry Bonds playing on your company softball team. Beyond the thick, creamy, rich, deliciousness that is the clam chowder, Captain P.'s has your usual seafood fare. The seafood has always been fresh when I've been there, but nothing that makes me want to yelp home immediately. The ambiance is ok, the best spot is at the bar which is lined with an equal amount of Cape locals and patches from various police departments. Come for the chowder, stay for the chowder.

Family friendly and laid back restaurant. The clam chowder is awesome. It's heavy, so stick to a cup or share with someone if you are going to order a meal. My sister and I split the seafood platter and it was really good. The service was great. I had a cosmo that was perfect!

Oh, the famous Capt'n Parkers. One of the few seafood spots on the Cape that I'll let myself give in to it's hype. It's crowded, noisy, and the service often very brisk. Though, all for good reason. Seriously some of the best clam chowder on Cape Cod. That's a pretty big deal in these parts.

A brief review for you... Made my first trip to New England in October, and had to get clam chowder on Cape Cod. It is a requirement right? I know everywhere says they have the best clam chowder, however this was the BEST clam chowder I have ever tasted, coast to coast. So thick! The restaurant itself had a friendly atmosphere, and the service was pretty good.

    (5)
  • Gerry H.

I concur with what some other reviewers have said on here. The clam chowdah was above average, but nothing to write home about. I actually disliked the fried shrimp and french fries, and only ate half. In spite of the friendly service, I was disappointed with my $40 dinner.

  • Alexander B.

I give five stars for the chowder. It is absolutely fantastic. I haven't had anything else on the Cape that even came close anytime recently. The fried seafood is not as good as some of the other establishments (such as Arnold's or PJ's). I give a 3 stars for the fried food. That said, I would come here if they served 1 star fried food because the chowder is that good.

Captain Parker's has been one of my vacation favorites for about the past ten years. Went twice last week. Very consistent. Chowder is fantastic, as are the fried seafood dishes. While I have never eaten the prime rib, it looks amazing. I have had a wide variety of dishes on the menu and have always been pleased. I recently had the spinach salad with grilled salmon and it was great. The salmon was not dried out and the portion was significant. For some reason, the "Mug Mug Special," which is a mug of chowder as well as a clean mug to take home, is off the menu. I asked my server about it and she was sure she could still get me that special. The waitstaff has been there for a while, so the lack of turnover is a good sign. Every waiter/waitress we have had has been pleasant and competent. Good place for kids. The place is casual and family-friendly. The only reason I cannot give it five stars is that the wait is excruciating. It is fine if you can get into the bar area, but if you are stuck on the enclosed porch for an hour, it can be brutal! Sit outside if you can. It was beautiful out there. The only drawback is that there is a view of a marshy river and route 28. It will always be one of my favorites!

Well, the clam chowder is good. Don't get the seafood platter! It was a joke, the piece of swordfish was about 2 inches by 1 inch. They sat a family with a couple of little kids (the parents were the problem here) right by the window, the best seats in the house! Little kids screaming and the parents did nothing...Why even seat them there in the first place? Right next to a romantic couple eating dinner..... Plus our server was never around, very lame. The servers are walking around in shorts and polo shirts in an expensive restaurant. My seafood had cheese on it, and was barely edible, I don't think it was cooked through. I think we may have just ordered all the wrong things here, but for their prices and the lack of common sense here (and we still joke about the piece of swordfish years later).....we'll never go back. Too many other places we'd rather spend out hard-earned cash while at the Cape.

3 stars for the chowder and stuffed mushrooms. We also ordered the mussels, cajun shrimp, and calamari. Calamari was decent, but the mussels were covered in cheese and I wasn't a fan. The shrimp wasn't spicy as advertised and all you could taste was the breading, not the shrimp. The mushrooms also came drenched in cheese, but once I pulled them out, I found I enjoyed them. I agree with other reviewers who say go here for the chowder, then eat the rest of your meal elsewhere.

We went there last night for dinner. We had a 30 minute wait, but because they opened up the patio with space heaters and beautiful fire pits to sit by in the colder weather, we were able to take our drinks outside and enjoy the evening while waiting for a table. The outside bar only serves bottled beer, but you can get drafts inside and take them out. We ordered the chowder to start (which is good; very thick but loaded with clams and potatoes). I ordered the stuffed sole, which was stuffed with a seafood/bread stuffing, and covered in hollandaise sauce. Nothing extraordinary, but I did get three large pieces of stuffed sole, a lot of french fried potatoes (those were really good), and a vegetable medley. My husband ordered the extra crispy fish and chips, which he loved. The portions for his fried fish went above and beyond what we've seen elsewhere. He couldn't finish his meal, which is really unusual because there was so much food. Service is really fast; our waiter was friendly and efficient. We've been here before, but we've never had any complaints, which is why we keep coming back.

  • Timothy D.

Been to the captain a number of times, and have enjoyed myself. Today however was the first time I had the calamari, sorry to say but probably the worst I have ever had. My sandwich, roast beef club, was great, hope you step up the calamari, it's a popular app

Amazing! My fav place to go when I am in Yarmouth! Great food! Especial their chicken....very delicious

Very nice staff and great food. Wait times were a bit long all around, but the volume of the restaurant late on a Sunday night must have had the staff very busy! Will definitely be back for the chowder.

What a great meal. Lauren our waitress helped me out with some gluten free options. Very knowledgeable and the food was great. They have a GF menu, but also had items on the regular menu that were able to be gluten free. Worth the trip!

The most Amazing seafood I have ever had!! The clam chowder and fish&chips were out of this world! HIGHLY recommended

Just meh.

  • Whitney D.

  • Frank P.

The worst dinner ever the cod was bad and tasted like soap, just paid and left!!! The staff was fine just a bad dinner I did call and let them know, I don't want a free anything

    (1)

  • Brett J.

    (2)
  • Sylvia C.

  • Jason M.

  • Ashley D.

    (4)
  • Mike F.

  • Erin W.

  • C M.

Noisy, crowded, and nothing special. We both had lobsters that were okay. Potato was cold and green beans very undercooked. Left feeling disappointed.

Chowder was good but does not carry the entire business! Service here is very poor, from the host to the waitress!

  • Vickie J.

I'm ruined for clam chowder. This place has the best chowder hands down. Every other place I go will now have a bar to be compared to! I only gave it 4 stars because there was nothing special about the atmosphere or the service. So this is a put your Pinky's down and eat good food place!

    (4)
  • Megan M.

Very good dinner!! Our group had a Greek salad, Caesar salad with chicken, cheeseburger, and bourbon steak tips. All were great! Oh, and the chowder is yummy too!

    (5)
  • Alaina R.

The chowder is very good and so was the burger( I like plain burgers). The scallops wrapped with bacon were a little fishy. My husband agreed but, didn't mind it. The bartenders were nice as well.

  • Elaine T.

  • Trudy P.

The food was pretty good but the service was "unfriendly" the server never smiled at all and was to quick when she approached our table and never even asked us if we wanted dessert.....but I have to say they make the best chocolate martini! Happy days to you.

  • Spock N.

  • Jonathan W.

    (4)

  • Mary P.

  • Matthew A.

    Lobster roll was horrible...

  • Rob S.

Captain Parker's never fails. Out of all the numerous meals I've eaten here, never a bad plate of food. If you're going to get the chowder, just get the bowl for a dollar more than the cup. You'll regret it if you don't.

The food is fantastic and the chowder is the best on the cape. The staff including management is less than desirable.

Great chowder. BUT such a long wait. The other food was middling/poor and service was lousy. If you can get chowder to go, then it's worth it. Otherwise a waste of time and money.

I've been there several times through the years and they haven't changed much. Average service, bartender is arrogant/borderline rude. Over rated food, Chowder is salty and they use too much flour/corn starch. They seem to survive with aggressive marketing. Just another tourist trap. Good luck to them.

Chowder was really good but the clams were a little chewy not as tender and fresh tasting as some of the other places closer to where I stay. Glad I tried it but not worth the drive from far away.

Apps! Had all different seafood and vegetable apps...all delicious. Best chowda on the cape! Cool bar too and bartenders all over you to service you!

Best chowder I've tried on the cape so far. Good beer selection, fish and chips was tasty. Service is very quick. Crowded place.

This is the first time I can say that Capn Parker's was only OK. The chowder was good, though not "award winning". The broiled seafood platter was not that good, very disappointing. The seafood fettuccine and seafood casserole were good. Overall, not a good dinner.

I concur with what some other reviewers have said on here. The clam chowdah was above average, but nothing to write home about. I actually disliked the fried shrimp and french fries, and only ate half. In spite of the friendly service, I was disappointed with my $40 dinner.

Save yourself from food poisoning and go elsewhere!

like someone said before 5 stars for the chowder, but 4 star average.

The chowder is great, the rest of the food is average at best. I'd recommended sitting at the bar for a quick beer and chowder, skip the meal

Very good food and great service. It was busy at dinner time, but well worth the wait.

You must stop by this pub if you go to Yarmouth!

when i moved to the cape, everyone told me to go here. i brought a few friends and had a nice time until- 45 minutes later i had food poisoning! All i ate was the sample appetizer with the two clams, muscles, mushrooms with melted cheese - i will never go back.

No kidding, the best clam chowder I've ever tasted. Great onion rings and fried seafood too. Get the Cape Cod Red beer if they have it.
